Hello all,

I realise the game has been updated from 32bit to 64bit Dosbox wrapper for Catalina, and thanks a lot for that. But I've realised quite a few features I've depended on are missing. The previous app was excellent with windowed mode, numpad emulation and fast forwarding. I was wondering when these features are going to be reimplemented in 64bit?

Thanks

I don't own a Mac, so I might be wrong, but I believe the previous GOG "generation" of DOS games (32 bit) for Mac used Boxer, which uses DOSBox in it but has features of its own, including niceties exclusively necessary for Macs, and some others that I would like to have in DOSBox myself (if well implemented, fast forward sounds quite interesting for some games).

Now GOG is repackaging everything with 64 bit pure DOSBox for MacOS, which doesn't have those niceties.

As far as I understand, the development of Boxer stopped a few years back, and the only "official" 64 bit version it had was not really 100% 64 bit. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but if it gets fiddly like that, GOG is probably not going to touch it.

Maybe you should start looking around the web to learn how to try the 64 bit version of Boxer, for some other ways of supplementing DOSBox to fulfill your needs, and also learn to use DOSBox to its full, which you might not have been doing since Boxer was so easy to use.

Since your problems are not exclusive to Colonization, you could also post in the General forum, so that more people see it and might give you advise regarding DOSBox in MacOS or other alternatives you might have. You will certainly get the usual suspects saying stuff like "Get a reeeal computer!!!11" but don't mind them, there's also plenty of helpful people there.

In any case: what's the issue you are having with windowed DOSBox?
Thanks for your reply, Links. Yeah that explains a lot. I'll try posting it on the general forum. I really hope someone will pick-up Boxer again in the future. I'll check out the Dosbox tutorial as well - thanks.

My main problem is it doesn't have windowed mode at all, basically. And none of the windowed mode niceties that come with it. It's just a really ugly full screen dos screen with a weird resolution that makes everything look buttery on the screen.
I'm just going by the usual DOSBox keys under Windows, but you should be able to change between fullscreen and windowed modes by pressing the ALT + ENTER keys (I think the option key is the equivalent for ALT in Macs).

If the window is too small, you will not be able to simply resize it, but you can edit the .conf file, that has the DOSBox configuration for the game, to establish any resolution (window size) that you want for it. See the windowresolution option in https://www.dosbox.com/wiki/Dosbox.conf#.5Bsdl.5D
