I have a bug in the game, when I have contact with another european country in 1665 the game crashes,
if I execute in dosbox console I can see the error:

Error "PopupBoundaries" in module "<ViceroyPopup>" data: -125 77

Most recent memory check: 84512
Most recent DOS error: 2
Stack use indicator: 0

Anyone with the same error? Any bug fix?

Thanks
Never seen or heard of such an error. Did you ping support? After searching online a bit I think they will be your best bet.

Out of curiosity, have you tried another game? Wouldn't be unheard of for the save file to be corrupt.

I fixed the bug, it is in Spanish version, in localization file GAME.TXT
In lines 2166 and 2176 there is a incorrect char "ù"

the lines have:
"ùQue piratas? NUNCA hemos tolerado la pirateria!"

To fix the bug:
"Que piratas? NUNCA hemos tolerado la pirateria!"

and it works! :D

If you get a chance, could you email Support about the bug and the solution to it? :)
The truth is, any non-English version of Colonization is bound to crash due to characters with accents. We played it in French when we were kids and we kept getting random crashes whenever an European power tried to parley with us. I recall, at some point we got so fed up of getting good games stuck in an endless loop of crashes because the only recent savegame we had was the autosave that crashed, that we just played on archipelago maps and parked units on every square of our islands to prevent other players from landing and talking to us.

The only solution is to replace every characters with accents with their accentless counterpart (e instead of é ê è ë, u instead of û ü...), in every string of text present in the game, only then the game will be deemed fixed. Until that happens, the only version that is safe to be played is the English version. Should your game crash again, try going in the game options and changing the language to English before loading your savegame.

We have updated the PC version (Mac coming soon!) of the Spanish installer for Colonization that should fix this very issue :)

Yes, I talk with Support about the solution of this issue, and they fix it! this is awesome!
Thanks Gog! I really like the fact that there are staff monitoring the forums and also actively applying these sorts of fixes to the games, even when they are over 20 years old. Makes me want to buy more games!

Hi! I am still having this issue.
Please check GAME.TXT of the spanish installation for incorrect characters.
