I haven't played too far into this game as of yet and I am still driving the default vehicle. This made me wonder what some of the better cars handle like in this game. Then by association: What types of cars are favoured by "the community" and why? Does it even matter when you can change the set up your car?
It would be interesting to find out.
I've unlocked nothing yet, I'm playing through Time Trials to get a feel for the game and I have to say the Original Mini is a blast to drive.
I usually end up playing the 4WD and 2WD cars the most as they handle best my style of gameplay. The RWD cars I usually oversteer or end up doing donuts in.
I did find that at least changing the tires will help your race.
Yeah, in DiRT, when ever I played in RWD cars I'd just go in circles, I hated them. Give me a FWD car though and I always find it a lot easier to drive.
And I've changed my favourite car, it is now the MK1 Escort. Bit too skittish on dirt roads and mud, but an extremely fun car and it looks great too!
In no particular order or classification:
-Lancia Stratos. Fell in love with the look. Adored its handling back in Sega GT. Sure, it doesn't handle all that well in CMR and is somewhat weak, but I could stare at its tailights all day long without ever getting bored.
-Subaru Impreza WRX. Fast, responsive and easy to handle. A classic of rallying and an easy car to get into for some pick-up-and-play.
-Ford RS200. Probably my favorite of the bunch. A blazing fast machine with enough power to level continents in its path. To me it represents rally at its finest: pedal to the metal, all-out high-rev speeding and this sensation that you're always edging out of control just from the sheer mayhem.
Well, I always belived in the Subaru Impreza = Rally relation. So I'm a sucker for the car. :P
That said, I also like the Peugeot 206, but for personal reasons: I own one. :D
I'm dying to get my hands all over the Toyota Celica too, but I've yet to unlock it.
All of the B-group cars.
