Hello, I've found online this unofficial patch used by the community to make online matches years ago, it works on the CC2 GOG version, I've seen it used on various YouTube videos but I have to say that after the patch installation the same campaign that I have started playing before seems to be unplayable even if I restart it. Someone else tried this patch? To me is like that the difficulty is way higher with this patch installed, in addition I find ugly to read 3.4 after every unit name when the patch is installed and I would like to remove it... Someone else tried this patch? You can find it on the Close Combat Series download section
I use the patch/mod on my retail version of CC2 and it works fine - battles and campaigns are certainly not "unplayable". This patch adjusts a lot within the game and supposedly makes the weapon capabilities and effects much more realistic.

Looking at the readme file of 3.4 patch inside the game folder I've found the following:

SPECIAL NOTE: 3.x patch in Grand Campaign?
A Note on using the 3.x patch in Grand Campaigns (‘GCs’): Campaigning is a rich part of the CC2 experience. 3.x, however, is a "ladder patch," developed with single-battle ladder matches in mind, though consideration is given to effect of changes on Campaigns. Due to possible game balance issues, consideration should be given to the use of the original 2.0b patch in Grand Campaigns[..]

And at the end it says that the mos popular setting for Grand Campaigns with two players is Germans: Weak / Allies: Strong

So probably to play with other players it can be used the patch but is not a good idea to enjoy the single player campaign...

Thanks for the info, I'll have to re-read that readme file - it's been a very long time since I read it.
By the way, because I found the 3.4 labels ugly on the units, and I've preferred by far the original labels I've edited the patch to restore units names to 2.0b. If someone is interested I could send the patch to test if everything works, I made a brief test and everything seems to working fine so far.
