Seemingly random, but more often than not, the sound (and music) sound crackly / low bitrate. Does this in both 3Dfx and D3D modes. Anyone else have this and is there a fix?

i7, GTX 285, W7/64, X-fi Titanium.

UPDATE: just fixed it by enabling EAX support via Creative's Alchemy. Did not even know the game used EAX (at least it shouldn't for default, non-3D audio?), but by pointing Alchemy to the system folder in the game's install path the crackling disappeared...

True, but the problem is (was) also there with it set to 'off', and already apparent in the menu screen, which seems peculiar to me.
Thanks for the tip regarding Alchemy, It worked fine.
In case you don't want to install ALchemy for some reason there's another way to fix the crackling sound.
Follow these instructions to disable DirectSound in the System.ini file:

I did and it worked! And everything sounds great.

Apparently, if you drop your rate from 32 to 16 bit that also fixes it -weird huh?
In "Clive Barker's Undying\System\System.ini"
Set UseDirectSound to false
[Galaxy.GalaxyAudioSubsystem]
UseDirectSound=False
I found the very quickest fix for this sound problem. You had better go and download, rename it, because it may not be up very much longer for download. It's a "Fileplanet" downloadable texture patch fix. I grabbed it, and installed it, and wow! Instant fix! Here's the link: http://www.fileplanet.com/61044/60000/fileinfo/Clive-Barker%27s-Undying-Texture-Patch-v1.0

Just be sure to unzip this file into your GOG directory, into your "Sound" sub folder. It actually extracts the final file, "OneirosExB.utx, a UTX file type with 4,419 kb in size"

I think UTX files are textures for unreal engine games. Nothing related to sound.

not sure if anyone has found a fix yet, but i was dealing with this problem myself and did a little hunting.
visit video-advanced- within the game and check the fps limiter.

yes this game has a built in fps limiter it would seem, and for some it may start off as way too low as mine was which was barely high at all, i changed it to a higher setting which instantly fixed my problem

hopefully this fix helps with most who face down the odd audio, as this game is truely great ^w^
