Civ-City Rome has some trouble running in Wine under some distributions (Arch). Some 'fixes' suggested elsewhere were simply wrong in my situation. The game runs under Win64 for example, so 32bit is not required. First the game would crash on startup. The fix was to install the right fonts. Later I found out that the game would crash with errors like low memory, and other more random issues until eventually it would crash just before the main menu. Deleting a file (cbr.cache) fixed this (I assume this will occur repeatedly.)

Summary -- Install
Winetricks recommended. Renderer needs the correct dll files, "gl" (openGL) is a safe alternative.

Fonts (needed)
corefonts
meiryo

Settings (optional)
fontsmooth=rgb
renderer=vulkan

Sudden crash issue (temporary fix)
cbr.cache appears to become corrupt over time. Locate and delete. The location may be different but I found mine here:
Documents/CivCity Rome/Saves/cbr.cache

I hope this is helpful to anyone encountering these issues.
