I had this game when it was first released, and could run it in 1080p no problem, but now I can't get it to go higher than 1360x something, really annoying have tried everything to fix this, every other. Game runs fine, HELP PLZ.......
I have this problem too, all I could find on the net was that this game doesn't support HDMI output very well.

A fix for this would be nice as the graphics really look blurry on a 1080p screen.
similar problems here. i bought this awhile ago when it was on sale, it played fine set to 1920x1080 @60hz.
I recently reinstalled it, and although the 1920x1080 resolution is still selectable, the actual display is 1280x1024 according to my monitors info button. changing the environment.cfg file doen't seem to help.
I'm using a HD6870, maybe its AMD driver related

That very well possible, my videocard is AMD too.

Has this problem been solved?
If not, try to inject this code in your environment.ini! (C:\Users\*yourName*\AppData\Local\Atari\The Chronicles of Riddick - Assault on Dark Athena)

This doesn´t actually forces the resolution, but it takes the 1080P-Resolution availible in Menu so you can apply it afterwards!

it makes the 1920x1080 resolution selectable, but it never actually applies. instead it swtches to 1280x1024.

I've heard it may be related to HDMI/HDTV resolutions (i play my games on a large tv via a DVI to HDMI adapter)

i had anther crack at this, and now i feel really stupid.
in catalyst control centre:
my digital flat panels> properties (digital flat panel)> enable gpu scaling.

all of my TV's supported resolutions are now selectable, and they work when i hit apply in game.
fraps reporting 60fps, TV's info button reporting 1920x1080@60hz

longest facepalm ever
Disclaimer: I have not yet played this game.

That said, I DO know about ini files and things like that. Usually, when you want to force a game to a specific setting like that, you enter the into like it is shown above, then you make the ini file, or config file, etc. READ ONLY. That way the game will read it, but when it tries to apply the base resolution it won't be able to write to the file.

Like I said, I personally haven't tried it in this game, but it is a fix that gets a lot of older games to run in widescreen mode, or to stop some games from overwriting custom settings, and I figured it would work in this case too.

If THAT doesn't work, you can always check WSGF and see if they have a fix :-)

It's the remnants of the nasty DRM that was in the game and that GoG did a fairly poor job stripping. If you're using an HDMI cable it will not run in HD (not even 720p). If you run it with DVI the 1080P option becomes available immediately. But if it even so much as SENSES you have HDMI plugged in, no HD options appear. So I'm stuck playing it on my 17" monitor instead of my 50" plasma. Really makes me mad. I'm guessing when you initially played it you were doing so with a different cable and now you've switched to an HDMI cable. I don't understand why GoG won't get rid of this last bit of obnoxious DRM. It wouldn't be hard to do, at all. I wonder if someone here could even figure out how to do it? If HDMI is plugged in, it automatically disables the 1080p, option. Would there be a way to change that in an .ini folder, or something?

This worked for me, having the same issue. Now I can display at full 1080p on my 40" Samsung using HDMI, looks fantastic. You have to quit the game for it to take effect, though
Ok, I spent all day with this game. It is a small gog file, and was trying to use it on a friends laptop. I just fixed it, and wanted to be sure the onboard gpu worked. Which, leads me to this is a broken gog port to an extent. Multiplayer worked. Butcher bay even worked. But for whatever reason, Assult on dark athena just will not run. Halfway through Vin Diesels monologe, the game just crashes.

Which, led me to reinstall it on my own personal desktop. Led me to this issue. So!! On AMD cards, virtual super resolution works fine. But if I leave GPU up-scaling and ITC processing on, the game tops out at 1366x1024. Even if you go in the config file, it doesn't actually change anything for me. Actually turning OFF upscaling and ITC processing, both in digital flat panel properties, caused the game to unlock its resolutions for me. Which is the opposite of what one other poster said. Personally? I'd fool around with the cataylst control settings until you get it unlocked.

Now note. Along this process, I tried installing the 1.01 patch not from GOG. DO, DO NOT DO THIS! A- it installs the Tages DRM, that was on the original pc release. And the game won't run anymore.
The game has an issue with HDMI period.

1. Anytime its played on HDMI, it reverts to some BS lower resolution. Tested in on my 4K tv it reverts to 1400x1050 resolution. On my 1080p monitor with DVI, no issues at all.

2. Editing the environment ini or cfg file doesn't have any effect. Setting the file read-only results in the game brilliantly removing the lock. Remove the full control rights on the file, and the game vomits an error and doesn't run at all.

Bottom line, Atari or Starbreeze or GoG didn't do a good job of future proofing the game for HDMI.
