It appears that the windows version is on 1.2.x while the Linux version has lagged behind in 1.1.x land. Would appreciate an update....

Thanks for asking the devs. I'm also missing the update.

In the Steam-Forum the 11 bit studios developer Rufus Blackwood answered:

Hi!

There's one issue that we still have to sort out if it comes to Linux version buuut we're working on it as we speak. :) Can't give you ETA yet - but just wanted to confirm we're doing our best!

Cheerio!
:)

I put the current changelog to the forum:
* https://www.gog.com/forum/children_of_morta/changelog/post10
which was still missing - and were waiting since the update was announced.
I use GNU/Linux and really love CoM - but I have never seen so many bugs (I mean in a game - Windows has more ;).
Additionally, it is not stable and crashes - including losing the complete current run which may be worth more than an entire hour.
I sent them a big error report (07./10.02.2021) - and as a Unix expert would have helped and still would.
But never heard anything back.
So I really hoped things would improve with the new update - and now this is missing on Linux.
When a good part of devs seems to be working on a new title.
This game is in its heart a real AAA game (not these foto-realistic trash games hyped to the skies - and hopefully
all of them are Windows only so bugs are common) ... but we will see if one get serious with getting the current
mass of bugs fixed.
After the changelog a small part was dealt with ... so I would have loved to test it ...
But it could be that now they really test an improve the Linux port ... it really deserves it.
I mailed them again about the missing update and no feedback about my bug report (I don't get a ticket number
or anything else ...) but it is now up to them to deliver ... and it should have clearly stated on the changed
product page that Linux is late but worked on - this is nothing to just give info in one forum but on all product pages
they are responsible for.
I really hope that the end result is positive and the game is great and not just abandoned due to new projects.
From my point of view the lack of care is a main problem today - and a lot of customers may just go away and
no longer care ... and this is not only a problem of developers or publishers but also for game platforms.
The complete lack of QA is more than striking.
The main info about problems or real version etc. comes from gamers ... this is not as it should ... and
I have seen developers directly asking, improving and working harder when the bug is still there till it is fixed.
Those really earn money ... and with so many people involved the bugs I have seen should not have survived
early access ...
So I hope the best for devs and gamers that we will get a version which is playable with fun and has no longer frequently
occurring and game breaking bugs.
Especially it would hurt if this gem will stay in an unpleasant state only useful for casual gaming ... that is the state
of 1.1.70.3, unfortunately. I really missed frequent updates were bugs are fixed ...
And yes - I played a lot of days - the full game plus full NG+ - with lots of Morv and nothing to spent it on ... but with several crashes, lots of different graphic bugs etc. this was not fun at all - but it could be one of the best games
ever ... and this is what I don't get ... the story is really deep and motivating ... the controls are very good, the art is great,
it is just a lot of bugs still left (and not typical for Unity games under Linux! - I own more than 200 Unity games).
And I thought after the paid DLC they may fix all the remaining bugs as the game stops getting extended ...
But now the future is unclear at best!
The current form on Linux is pre-beta ... and this is not acceptable ... so I really do hope they are working on a stable version under Linux - finally.
I would like to play the entire game without having to worry about a crash or having to deal with graphical bugs or
to get stuck between wall and chest or ...

JMB9: ...
Interesting, what distribution and graphics stack you have? I played dozens of hours on Arch linux with Intel iGPU and didn't experience a single bug or crash.
Kubuntu 20.10 STS ('Groovy') and via PPA 5.11.x and Mesa 20.0.x
on AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (Zen2) and AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT (Navi 10/RDNA1) on my machine and
playing with a friend on Mint 19 (i.e. Ubuntu 18.04 LTS based) and Intel Core i7-6700 (Skylake) with
Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 and seeing same graphics problems, hangs and getting stuck (between chest and wall etc.) -
all multiple times.
I am absolutely sure that it has nothing to do with used GNU/Linux distribution but only with real bugs of the game.
I stopped playing to wait for updates - as this is really a painful experience.
Without those game-breaking bugs that game would be terrific ...
So seeing no bug under Linux is absolutely not possible with this game.
With crashes I mean loading forever without chance to play - as the next level is not built.
So it could easily killed - but you can literally wait forever ... and still loading animation works - and works - and works!
So endless looping would be more appropriate - and killing the game one starts with the old state - but not experiencing this error a second time - so not a case to expect a broken save or something like that.
Happened really a lot of times.
Also getting stuck happened several times - only once - paying Marc with good leap skill
he could come free by attacking an approaching enemy ...
These are not bugs depending on HW or distro - clear bugs which should be identified easily.
Also electric field which stayed after killing the crowned boss creating them ... and staying till ending the game.
It is just the code ... and it happened so often that it killed the fun for me.
So I hope all this nasty bugs get caught - so I could finally play the entire game from the beginning -
to enjoy this game for the first time.
I started with 1.1.70.3 (40979) - base game incl. DLC right from the beginning - and are waiting for the 1st update.
So no problem with version change possible.
Now the Linux update is there:
* https://www.gog.com/forum/children_of_morta/changelog/post11

But if you have the "Paws and Claws" DLC you still have no luck:
The given DLC is intsalling the old game replacing the new one ...
Devs/Publisher is informed ... we have to wait again ...
