Anyway.

At a certain point in the game you can ONLY head to the forest to save the pregnant wife.

I'm going to be quite frank: I have tried to finish this so many times that, mentally, my internal canon is slowly edging towards:

The Family tried, but WELP, they all died. The End.

IT's that bad. My strongest character is John. I get to what I HOPE is the last part of this section, where there are two pillars and you need to kill the boss.

Eventually the pillars stop responding to gemstones and I am screwed. I have attempted this so many times at this point that John is now level 18. I started at level /14./

Are the pillars supposed to just run out? That's all I need to know. IF they are, then I can just quit and play something else entirely.

My answer might be a bit late, but I hope it is of help to those who struggle with this particular boss.

Using the gemstones on the pillars does a bit of damage to the boss, but you can't kill him with gemstones and pillars alone.

You have to attack the boss directly! Walk over to him and whack him on the head (or shoot arrows or fireballs at him if you are playing with Linda or Lucy)!

Using the gemstones on the pillars is mainly used to heal yourself and to remove the pools of corruption on the ground from time to time so you can move around more freely.

And yes, you can only use the pillars for a limited amount of times, but if you keep attacking the boss and only use the pillars to heal when you're down to about half to one third of your health, then you should be able to kill the boss before the gemstones or pillars stop working.

My solution is to bring the archer girl. Buff her up on levels, and you'll be good if you can reach the third arena with the final boss.
Get to the SE pillar of the SE gemtone-pire, and stay there! Now you are immun to the lasers, and most enemy will somehow not notice you. Use the red arrow ability to fasten the kill. The AoE-stun ability comes in handy too.

What are you even supposed to do at, what I guess after reading this is, the first "bossroom"?
You are locked in, enemies spawn endlessly, the "bosswall" takes no damage when shot. You can activate the pillar to clean the floor.
....I activated the pillar a couple of times,killed like 20 enemies...tried to hit the boss....nothing seems to do anything, at all.

This whole section is bloody awful.

Ok, this time the wall vanished after 3 pillar uses. Im pretty sure I did that before. Anyway, done with that awful section.
