Just now attempted to play and they're still there.

Any suggestions for tweaking that might correct this?

I'm having white boxes. Can't figure out how to get rid of them.

I never found a work around to get it work in Windows 8.

Only fix that I know of:

Run a VMware copy (or similar) of Win XP or older and run it in that. Technically it's on Windows 8, and yes - I think this answer sucks!

Well, GOG isn't claiming the game is fully compatible with Windows 8, only up until 7.
Shoot - just bought this game only to find out it doesn't work on Win 8.1. White boxes. Fix, please.
When a game doesn't support the newest windows OS, GoG should tell so in big fat warning letters in the overview text. Sure, they mentioned it in the 'compatible with' field. But I never read those, since I thought it self-evident that their games would run on modern OS, since this is the core of GoG.

That said, I got the game cheap, so no biggie. And hey, the manual got some nice hand drawn artwork :-)
No word at all from the vendor when/if this may get fixed?

From what I've seen through the dev's facebook page (and keep in mind this is only second-hand info), it sounds like GOG doesn't consider fixing this to be a high priority, and the Dev isn't able to do much without GOG on board (because the GOG file is embedded in their proprietary wrapper).
I should have read and checked the forum....will I ever learn before I purchase a game..hope the fix comes soon.

How long ago did you purchase the game? You might want to check GOG's refund policy to see if you're eligible for a refund - technically they do say on the game page that CO isn't compatible with Windows 8, but if you write to support and explain that you made a mistake, I'm guessing they'll be merciful.

That might be your best option for now, as it doesn't sound like a fix is coming anytime soon.
Thank you my friend..for the advice..they did offer to credit me but I think I will wait for someone to come thru..I worked on it for a solid 2 hours with every kind of possible compatibility combo..no luck yet
Love this game..miss playing it..thanks again
