How do I get mods for Caves of Qud? I see that the Steam workshop for Caves Of Qud has several available, but I need to know whether they are available to be downloaded and installed for the GOG version. Advice would be much appreciated

Mods can be downloaded and installed on the GOG version very easily. Just drop mods into their own folders in the save directory under a /Mods directory.

We have a modding guide here:

Thank you for the information. Much appreciated. Would you be able to tell me where I can find mods for Caves of Qud?

I don't know of any user collections outside of workshop at the moment, so it's fertile ground for someone enterprising.
From what i see there are no mods outside Steam because you have no working forum (or at least the one that your site links to can't be opened) and the game itself actually makes modders upload to Steam workshop. Unfortunately when i try to download one of them (via Steam API or using service like steamworkshopdownloader) i get the following error:

The game that this item belongs too does not allow downloading of its items...

Can you please correct this. After all you _DO_ sell the game via other distributors. Actually i would have never brought it in first place if it was Steam only.

It's not Steam only, there's nothing steam specific about the modding system at all. It does support Steam workshop, but you can zip up a mod and install it in the save path in the \Mods folder without Steam involved. Of course you can't access Steam-specific features if you don't have a Steam version.

Discord does not recognize the link in your post and searching for "caves of qud" or "freehold" gives no results.

I can't look into your progress, so I can't tell how much effort this would involve for you, but to fix the issue of lack of access to the Steam workshop for non-Steam users, you can consider switching to mod.io. It's a similar service as Steam Workshop but cross-platform, both for stores and devices, and what openXcom uses. That way you don't run into the issue that Steam workshop has where the modder needs to maintain non-steam workshop versions, such as through the Nexus, which tends to lead to mods effectively getting locked into the Steam service. I'd especially recommend this if you were thinking of releasing on the Epic store when ready to leave early access.

Great game otherwise! Very strong, alien ambiance that tickles the desire to explore. I'm curious to see if between now and the final release you'll mostly add further polish, or expand more on the existing content.

Wow, asked "How to disable mod, enabled from the in-game menu?" and the answer was "Either use Steam Workshop, or delete it from your disk.". Call this no vendorlocking....
Took me ~5 minutes to create symlink management yad wrapper, but the aftertaste is not good.

It's not vendor locking, disabling it in steam workshop literally just deletes it from your disk so it's the same either way at the moment.
