Carmageddon's non-3DFX mode looks fine, but the Splat Pack has this terribly ugly pixel smoothing effect that makes it look like an oil painting. How can I turn this off?

It probably uses somekind of scaler, see if you can set the scaler back to normal2x or normal3x.

You can use Nglide. I've never tried with Amd cards, i have no idea how it works but with Nvidia, working like charm.
