Does multiplayer work on this game (specifically the Windows patch version)?

Gossamer: Does multiplayer work on this game (specifically the Windows patch version)?
"Maybe."

If you can enter the multiplayer menu it should work. Reports about multiplayer success with the Windows patch could be added to this thread.
i'm also interested in playing multiplayer if there is a way to play it. i am able to enter multplayer and i can host game, but can't start until someone is join. also, if i'm not hosting it can't find any game. maybe it simply doesn't work or maybei need to customize some ini file or something similar? please if anyone can play, tell us how
Just tested, it works in LAN. I don't really know if carmageddon ever had internet multiplayer. As kid i didn't have even change to play it in LAN.

Maybe dos version could work in Internet because you have to manually put IP of your host computer before you launch game.

If it is possible i would like to know what ports i should forward from my firewall/router.
Carmageddon used the old IPX protocol for multiplayer networking. Not only is this protocol not routable across the internet but newer Windows doesn't even include the protocol anymore.

Dosbox supports IPX tunneling across TCP/IP which makes multiplayer setup easier and supported across the internet. To play the Win95 version multiplayer over the internet would require zero-configuration virtual private network software like Hamachi.
that's the way i want to play- with win95 version of original (gog) carmageddon (not splat pack) over hamachi (eventually tunngle)
I've got it working great.

Here's what I did:

1) Download the IPXWrapper -> http://www.solemnwarning.net/ipxwrapper/
2) Extract the contents into which ever game you playing (It should ask you to overwrite wsock32.dll, if it didn't, you didn't put it in the right place. Click yes to replace it)
- Carmageddon (example: E:\Games\Carmageddon\CARMA)
- Splat Pack (example: E:\Games\Carmageddon\CARSPLAT)
3) Go to which ever location you extracted it to and run ipxconfig.exe
4) Primary interface should be selected as whatever network device you are using. Then click on that same device under "Network adapters". Make sure that "Enable interface" is checked and apply the settings.
5) run ipxrouter.exe (This has to be run before the game)
6) Start carmageddon and multiplayer should be functioning.

I've done this and now my roommate and I are both playing the windows 95 version of both Carmageddon and Splat pack via multiplayer. We're going to attempt to play it over tunngle with some of our friends online to see how well that works.

It should have worked with the included wsock32.dll, did you try it?

tried it, neither of us could see each other's games. After following the instructions I posted, we could see each other's games, connect to each other and play.

Win95 version of carma uses TCP/IP and it should work in LAN without ipxwrapper. Are you and your roommate in same IP range and in same workgroup or what is your network configuration?

We're two computers wired up to a router, we're definitely in the same network as we've LANed other games before (Those were TCP/IP, example Aoe2).

Regardless, if the default way works for people, good for them, but my way is out there as an alternative for other people that are having issues :)
