I asked this in the relevant thread but I thought putting it here would make it more likely to get an answer. I have installed GOG's Win95 patch without any problems. My question is should I run the game from the shortcut GOG created on my desktop or from the CARM95 file found inside the game folder, in order to play the Win95 version?

Thank you. Is there really a difference than running the game in 3dfx? I tried both DOSBOX (in 3dfx) and Win95 and it looks kind of the same to me?

Also, I noticed you can't change the sound options in the Win95 version.

I now decided to play the game with nglide which seems to give the best graphics/sound. I have installed nglide, does anyone know which file I need to run in order to start the game with nglide? Apologies if this is very obvious

I believe with the shortcut that says "hardware," the glide version should lead to something like "carma3dfx.exe."
But I haven't installed the game at the moment so I'm not really sure.

Hi, just got the game. I can't find CARM95 anywhere. I tried the Carmageddon shortcut from the Start Menu (well, "Charms Screen" as I'm on Win 8.1), but that leads to the DOSBox version same as before. I'm stumped.

You need to install the "Experimental Windows 95 Patch". You can find it here:

Thanks. This is strange.... I already did what you suggested. I got this message from the GOG Patcher: "Installed version already includes this package".
It seems it's there... somewhere. I swear I've looked everywhere and as silly as this seems, it's effectively invisible. I've contacted support.

I should add that I'm on Windows 8.1.

That seems strange, as GOG has made it clear that the Windows-patch is not included in the original install from GOG. I had no problems installing it on Windows 7. Have you tried installing the patch as administrator?

Yes, I tried installing it as an administrator, no joy. When I downloaded the game using the installer, I looked at the download links for the GOG downloader. In the list of links there was a windows patch, but it was technically *not* an actual link that could be clicked on so that it could be downloaded seperately. I've noticed this with a few games that use this new system of GOG's. I honestly preferred the old method.

There were just two actual 'clickable' links:
- the main intaller
- Extras

Because the patch is listed underneath the main download, I would have assumed that it is included in the main download, although that is just an assumption; this new system of GOG's that involves more stages if you want to use the GOG Downloader - is not very clear with regards to what is actually being downloaded and, frankly a slight pain.
I also tried the other methods besides using GOG Downloader, but they are the same.

This is baffling beyond belief. I'm no PC pro, but I have no trouble tinkering about and getting things to work normally. Thanks for trying Random_Coffee. I will just leave it at that for now and see what Support says. If I get any further, I'll post the solution :)

Here's what my folder looks like...

GOG 95 "Patch" installer checking registry for installed version, when it's bigger than expected it assume that patch is already installed. Since GOG updated main pack, patch setup think it's already present. To install it we need to change version in registry. But why bother to install this version, when more advanced Unofficial 95 Restoration Project Pack is available...
