YaTEdiGo: also you dont have much time to both get all the powerups and most part of the cars you want.

JMich: You mean the Offense/Engine/Defense upgrades? On normal I used to have them overflow by group 8 or 9, since it is quite possible to get more than enough time to explore the stages, especially since there are only a few of those and the power ups are always in the same spots.

As for the missions, they did offer a change of pace, but whether that's good or bad does depend on your playstyle.
The Offense/Engine/Defense upgrades are too many, even if easy available in some levels, you dont easily get them all unless you play "grinding" something that I never did in the first game, but need to do in Carma2 , (For example repeating a level many times before move to next group) so this means many times, if you are getting bored of playing the same level, and if you are trying and collecting not so good cars at the beginning, just for trying, that you are going to lose the oportunity to get the better cars later, unless you start to repeat levels.

So the game mechanics are really focused in force the player to repeat levels, because there are less levels in this gme by far, this is not necesarily bad, more because Carma2 has a pretty nice level design, but the problem is that I loved the "casual" well planned pace of gameplay in the 1st game, and it is something that doesnt exist on Carma2, or not in the same level.

Just that, I still like the game, even with the annoying missions, but IMHO missions broke the fun most part of times, I dont want to play vs the clock, I dont want to memorize which path I need to follow and how fast in order to finish a Carmageddon level, and try over and over, (The last mission took me several days of try and error) I loved, and never suffered from "boredoom" from the "repetitive" gameplay of the first game, I enjoyed Carma2 very much this second time in general, even if it is now a good old game, but twice, years ago and now, give me frustration and annoying non relaxing funny moments with the missions.

Comparing Carmageddon 1 to Carmageddon 2, it cames to my memory MDK and MDK2, both sagas has the same issues, their second chapter has better graphics and visual improvements among some other good minor things in the gameplay, but both include new differente gameplay features that IMHO ruined the overal game quality. Sometimes less is more.

By the way, never played TDR2000, I heard is the worse of the three, we will see it on GOG.com?

Each level (City, Mine, Aircraft Carrier, Desert etc) has at least one upgrade slot and one upgrade for each item, some have more than one. Which give a total of 30 upgrades per type minimum. So no need to repeat levels, unless you want to or missed grabbing them.

As I said, that does depend on the playstyle. I couldn't play more than 2 consecutive races of Carma 1, especially since each race did take me about 45 minutes. With Carma 2 I could play one race then attempt a mission a few times, and when the mission grew too frustrating, go back for a quick bash in a race. So with the exception of mission 7 (Air controllers), I didn't find the other missions particularly vexing.

I recall playing it a bit, but it didn't feel like Carmageddon. Too little time bonuses, you couldn't get off the track that easily, and it felt much more constraining. I'd still like to see it here though, even if just to give it a second chance.
Sure! I would love to try TDR2000 here, actually I voted it in the wishlist hours before after this chatting! :D

tinyE: Love em both but I have to go with #2 and by a large margin, in terms of it being an actual game. For sheer gore and splat factor yes #1 is heads and tails, and dismembered limbs, above the other, but to me it's little more than a casual gore fest, which is fine if you are in the mood for that. #2 while obviously not as bloody makes hitting people a challenge. Even if you get a good smack on someone you make only remove an arm or leg but not actually kill them, and thus you must be diligent to finish the job. I also like the buy car option, the bonuses (minus the tail) of #2, and with the exception of the air traffic controller challenge I like the little games thrown in every 4th race to mix things up.

Of course the X-Factor: I'm an Iron Maiden fiend! :D
This^ (except I am not a big fan of Maiden). That fucking air traffic controller mission was the worst challenge I ever had in computer gaming. Never did pass it myself. I typically play until I get to that mission then I start over. LOL!

Carmageddon 2 is just a much better game overall than Carmageddon 1 (and I actually finished the first game! The second one I always got stuck on the air traffic controller mission) in almost every way IMO.

That mission is actually quite easy once you know what to do (PM me if you want the spoil), later missions are even harder.
