Hey everyone!
I'm wondering - I bought Cap2 on GamersGate, so I could play it with a friend in multiplayer. However, it turns out it has severe issues working with Vista. Singleplayer works like a charm - but when I set up a multiplayer game the other client sometimes find my game, and sometimes not. The times the other client find my game, and my friend does whatever is needed to be done to join - his client eventually just times out, and he's returned to the lobbby.
Now - my question is : Is the GoG version of Cap2 any different from the version on Gamersgate? Has anyone tested Cap2 multiplayer on Vista (specifically x64)?
A big thanks in advance!

This sounds like a router or firewall problem. Try playing your friend using GameRanger (which supports Capitalism II), as it is designed to solve these connection problems.

Late reply from me here ^^
Your suggestion is a good one (we haven't tried GameRanger yet) - but our problem is on the LAN. I.e. no firewalls; since I have a hardware firewall I don't use software firewalls on the computers inside the firewall.

We haven't encountered any problems while playing (edit: I mean testing) a multiplayer game over LAN.

And this is while using Windows Vista as the OS on the host computer?

Ok. I've just checked it once more (just for you) to be sure. :)
host: windows Vista 32 and 64 (two tests on two machines)
client: Windows XP 32 (on netbook)
First of all you should check that Capitalism 2 isn't being blocked by a firewall, Windows Defender, anti-virus or any other blocking software on both computers.
Than on host machine run the game. Choose Multi-player game. Choose TCP/IP connection. Hit the "Create" button. On the screen where you should enter your company details you should have a black panel (upper left corner of the screen) showing all players.
Now on the client machine you should run the game, choose multi-player game, choose TCP/IP connection. Hit the "Join" button. enter the IP address of the host machine. Choose the other player name. And now you should be in the screen where you should enter company details.
After entering the details both players should hit the "Ready" button and than the host should hit the "Start" button. when the game loads on both machines the game starts. :)
I hope that it helps. :) In case of any other questions please contact our tech-support.
Thank you Tirpitz :)
Guess that means I will be purchasing Cap2 from you next time my friend comes over! ^^

GameRanger actually solves the LAN problems as well. Capitalism II uses the DirectPlay networking library, which can be pretty flakey even on LANs by itself.
So my friend and i tried to connect through game ranger, but it still fails. Which ever one of us is the host gets into the game, but the other player goes into a blank loading screen, and then just gets an error saying "Can't join a game already in progress". This happens no matter which one of us are the host.
Any ideas?
Just an update, i switched over to my XP machine, and we had no problems linking up at all.
So my best guess is, its something vista related.
i am trying to play cap2 over a lan and when i try to load a multiplayer game it says: "you cant join the game because your version of capitalism 2 is different to that of the creator. the creators version is 1.00 while yours is 1.00."
can anyone help me
Has anyone been able to get the multiplayer to work on Windows 10? I've tried everything to include GameRanger, but can't get it to work. I'm trying to play this on a LAN. I can (occasionally see the host game, but can't join. On GameRanger, I can join the room and when we start the host runs normally, but the non-host seems tries to start but gets hung on the "splash screen" and then seems to hang before getting booted back the Lobby.
