The game installed with no problems using Wine, but when I try to play the game "encounters a serious error" and crashes (Ubuntu 12.10 Wine 1.4.1).

I'm still learning my way through Linux and Wine, so any easy to understand help (or a point in the right direction) will be greatly appreciated. :)

Not that I am much more familiar with Linux and Wine but I can offer 2 suggestions

1) Did you fix the inherent bug concerning movies? Unless it changed CTP2 itself has an issue which is documented on this forum somewhere.

2) Install Playonlinux (it is in the software center) it is fairly easy to ask wine to install things but novices won't know how to set all kind of stuff you can. The person(people) behind Playonlinux created a program that optimizes installing windows programs including a huge number of GOG.com specific installs.

This is probably not for novices - at all.. but the CtP2 Source Code Project over at Apolyton also has a Linux thread and I noticed that it had its 10th anniversary this week, which must be the reason why it's on sale this weekend. ;-)
