I don't have the GOG version, but if there is a dosbox.conf file, and you can edit it, you can try to change the sound values for DOSBox. Try to change "prebuffer" to 1000. (Or add the line "prebuffer=1000" under [mixer], if it is missing.)

I've just downloaded this game and had this problem, the file here is called dosbox_poi.conf and changing that value worked
