We all know about the secret couple Duane Henderson and Pearl Henderson but who are they really?
FBI agents, CIA, covering for the area 51 secrets, the JFK assassin, the secrets of the America presidents or are they just a crazy tourist couple?

It was clearly stated in BS2 that at least Duane worked for the CIA at the time. Pearl spoke openly on that, so I presume she is no way bound to the cause, just an innocent wife.

I think they are both delusional. Duane might really believe he's a CIA operative, but let's face it, he would be a very incompetent one if that really were the case. In reality he's a retired busniessman realizing life has got nothing more exciting to offer for him, except for trips in exotic places. To spicen up his marriage and his life, he invents a story. Pearl has chosen to believe her husband, not because she truly believes him, but because she loves him (and also because it allows her to stick by him and his money, allowing her to continue her lifestyle of mindless consumerism).

It's a bit sad.

Yes, I too think they're a couple of loonies. Nice to have run into them again in BS5. :)

I remember playing the first Broken Sword back in late 1996 and being really freaked out with Duane Henderson. I actually avoided him after my initial conversation because I thought he was a bad guy or in some why connected to the whole conspiracy. But in BS2, you learn what his deal is. He's basically an undercover officer for the CIA. Pearl sometimes accompanies him on his missions.

I think we may infer from the posts here that the game is ambiguous in this point. Duane claims that he is a CIA agent, whereas Pearl shrugs it off as her husband’s fantasy. The game leaves enough room to believe either of them, since both have their silly and sane moments. That’s what makes their characters great, in my opinion. They’re both annoying and yet very helpful, and I enjoyed seeing them again. :]
