Hey all,

I've been replaying Broken Sword 2 the last couple of days, and have now reached Captain Ketch's island. I'm at the point where I need the fisher boy to catch me a fish. In order for him to do that, he needs the tequila worm. So I gave it to him.

But then I got to wondering: I didn't need that tequila worm at any time before that. In fact, when replaying from the beginning, I could reach Marseilles without the tequila worm in my pocket, but without a means of return to Oubiers house. Meaning I could play the game without the tequila worm in my inventory, up to the point where I need it.

I don't really feel like replaying the game again without the tequila worm in my inventory, but maybe someone else can confirm this is an actual oldschool dead-end in the game, or if there"s some way around it?

If nobody knows, I'll investigate, but I figured it would be easier to just ask.

I thought the same was true for the little statuette, but in that case George automatically picks it up before leaving the room where Nico was held captive. The same doesn't happen for the tequila worm though.
Yeah, I've often wondered that too. I'd be curious to find out. Maybe if you google it, we can find the answer.

I remember in BS1, people used to tell me that it was possible to get stuck in that game. I think if George went to Spain before visiting Syria, the priest from the church at Montfaucon Square would never appear. Or something like that. I never tried it to see though. That always struck me as odd, since it actually makes more sense from a chronological sense to go to Spain first. Remember, after George foils the robbery attempt at the Crune Museum, Nico tells him that Andre had deciphered the coat of arms on the manuscript. So the next logical step would be to go see Andre and find out the origin of the knight, then to travel to Spain. I actually think traveling to Spain is what triggers the priest to appear. I don't know though. Ha, just thinking aloud. Sorry for rambling.

That's by no means a dead end.
If you don't pick up the worm, you clearly won't be able to give it to Rio. However, he'll accept Nico's lipstick instead (note he wouldn't if you had the worm!). If you don't have the lipstick by the time you're in Ketch's landing though (as you could've given it to the shaman), then Rio will accept Nico's panties (which, again, wouldn't have been accepted if you had had either the lipstick or the worm in your inventory). Obviously, there's no way to play through the game (or even exit the first location) without prior picking up the lipstick and panties along with the note from Lobineau from Nico's bag.

I'm not sure if that's changed in any way in Remastered edition, but that's exactly how it was in the original game. Gee, I must be a BS2 freak hence I know that...

Thanks for that helpful reply! :-)
It's beyond me how Rio could use erotic panties as a way to catch fish, but well, maybe they're horny fish. :p
Haha, now I'm tempted to play the game through again and set it up so I don't have the tequila worm.
Yeah, I gave him the panties once. :D
Hey, I didn't know about that. I always picked up that worm because I thought I won't progress in the game without it.

OMG thanks a lot four years later ! As I'm replaying the game for the fifth time, I was wondering this exact same thing. Broken Sword have always been the very best Point & Click for me, especially because of those plenty items that you'll have to use more than once and for different reasons (the make up tissue in BS1 is one of the main example of that). Thus I'm always really captivated by how the game itself is designed to be sure you use every item once your found it, so you are sure to have it later in your inventory. And this tequila worm was incomprehensible in that sense... :D
