Okay I have recently got a new laptop (HP ENVY model 6-1180ca) and I tried to run the original version but while it does run, as soon as I go to RESTORE it crashes. I have already tried to change the compatibility on the properties menu and run it as administrator (even both at the same time). I am wondering if this has to due with windows 8 or some other problem. If anyone has info or needs more please let me know.

Hi :)

This is a common issue that should be very easy to fix:

The original BS is a very old game and, as such, doesn't handle long folder paths all that well, causing it to crash when trying to write to or read from the default save path in a GOG installation (C:\GOG Games\Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars).

This can be fixed by editing the sword1.ini file in the game's installation folder, finding the savepath= line line and enclosing the save path in quotes like this:

savepath="C:\GOG Games\Broken Sword - Shadow of the Templars"

There is also another solution, which can be found in this thread and several other threads on the issue.

In the future, it would probably be a good idea to try a forum search for solutions before creating a new thread :)

I will try this, also I did try to look on the forums, but I could not locate the answers I sought.
