gog installers should always be executed with the /nogui option.

Broken Sword 1 DC, 3, and 4:
Works flawlessly in Wine.

Broken Sword 2:
ScummVM works perfectly in Linux and so you can play Broken Sword 2. In case of need here is an how-to.

- install ScummVM from your distro package manager;
- set WINEPREFIX to a temporary path and execute GOG installer using wine;
- move those items from the installation directory to a directory of your choice:
+ *.clu - files (be careful, there also a .CLU)
+ resource.dat - file
+ resource.inf - file
+ cd.inf - file
+ extras - directory
- go in the destination directory and rename `extras' to `video';
- delete the WINEPREFIX directory;
- start scummvm and point it to the directory where you copied all the files.
Have fun.

etb: Broken Sword 3:
No known way to make it work.
If you're not afraid of patching and compiling Wine from source here you can find a small patch which fixes the crash on startup:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9051#c11

Tried with Wine-1.3.9 and it worked.
I am just enjoying BS1:DC under Wine 1.2.1 and I have to say that an emulation is really flawless. Yahoo :).

A part the fact there is no emulation involved, I am happy for you. :)

Same here, it's great to be able to play at more and more games under Linux :)
Yes, it is really great. We own much to Wine, Linux is much better thanks its own Windows implementation.

But I also find sad that there are bounces of people who cannot understand the importance of it. (just seek Linux playability in google to see how many nonsensical considerations about the topic are there.)

Winston Churchill once said that people get the government that they deserve. I guess it applies to OS too.

I just say to MS Win people -- if you are happy with: .dll hell, dozen of incompatible versions (95, 95, 2000, XP, 7...), large and crazy register, necessity of antivirus, antimalware, anti-something other, dozen of clean-up programs, hundred of programs made without any consideration about the OS structure, difficult to install drivers... go with it and good luck.

I used MS Windows 12 years, when I finally passed to Linux (I was skeptical at begin, as you can probably imagine) I finally understood how hard Windows is.
I am always impressed that people still think that Linux is the difficult one; all thanks to advertisement.

Amen!
For everyday desktop use Linux owns Windows (and Wine keeps getting better and better).
Just finished BS II on my Ubuntu laptop:-)
Go with the BS3 then!

etb: , difficult to install drivers
.... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....HAHAHAHHAHAHA

come on seriously?? Linux drivers are the bane of it's existance.
Windows:Download driver, run it,click next lots followed by a possible reboot.
Linux: hmm do i get the OS or closed driver, RPM Deb or Tarball,hmm my flavour isn't listed i'll have to grab the source........2 hours later.... oh hey it's installed now to just restart X... 2 hours later... Ok thats X fixed... and so on

Linux is great I love to use it but it is not and will not be consumer friendly until everything is standardised.

Can anyone confirm that BS3 works fine in newer wine and BS4 still does not work?
Hello there!

Just days ago, I've found this nifty prog called PlayOnLinux and it has a script which automatically installs the GOG version of Broken Sword 3. It plays without any error at all. You needn't worry about your distro or Wine version, since it automatically downloads a sandboxed version of Wine that is needed for the game. There are ready packages and even repos for many distros. Enjoy!

If any1 has a solution for Broken Sword 4, I'd be very much obliged, thanks. I also bought it here, but it won't work. WineHQ has no solution.
Broken Sword 4 now works with the new version of Playonlinux (4.1.3.)...

Here's a screenshot on Debian Squeeze:

I play through both BS1 and BS2 on Mint. BS3 works fine but I don't feel like playing it after two such great games.
Why?
