Okay, I admit it: the story in BS1 has me pretty lost.

In Ireland, shortly after getting around the pesky goat, a cutscene begins in which George descends into some kind of underground structure. He shines his flashlight on a painting on the wall. It depicts someone who's been hung.

About 5 seconds later, I'm sitting in Nico's apartment talking about how I just spent the night with a dead guy and was up last night drinking.

What? Dead guy? Drinking? Is my game messed up or did I miss something?

It's been a long time ago when I played the game so I don't remember the details but I do remember that part was very weird. So I can assure you that nothing wrong is with your game :)

Whenever you finish a location with George, in the next scene he'll always return to Nico's apartment and recall his experiences. So don't be alarmed, it's normal, you didn't miss anything! :)
And I agree with you, the transition in this part is so sudden and poorly executed that I didn't understand it either when I first played the game...

I admit that I also expected that there would be more under the Irish castle, but I think that scene makes it obvious that George narrates what happeend to him after the castle . So, there was no teleporting, but they decided to use that narrative method to skip some events (drinking in Irish pub) which didn't have much to do with the main story.

When you ask the bartender about renting a room, he says that there is a room available, but there's a dead guy in there waiting for the funeral service to pick him up. So after the castle thing George goes drinking and sleeps in the dead guy's room.
Does that mean George actually did fix the beer pump?
