i m not a fan of adventure games in general but i really enjoy the broken sword series, are there any other adventure games that focus more on the story and characters than on puzzles?

Out of games already on GOG, I'd recommend Beneath a Steel Sky, Deponia, and anything from WadjetEye games.

Maybe Runaway series? The Longest Journey or Syberia will be good choices too.

if other people are looking for similiar games too: the geheimakte/secret files series is also pretty good.
however its not on gog and i dont think its known much outside of germany.

Gabriel Knight series, although it's more serious and more difficult but not in the sense of having silly puzzles but, being a detective game, you have to use more investigative thinking. For example looking for evidence and clues on the crime scene, the game just doesn't hold your hand that much by telling you exactly what to do by showing you "this is definitely usable" while everything else isn't.

I just finished Lost Horizon and would recommend it.

For subject matter rather than gameplay Assassin's Creed and Deus Ex series. Templar/Illuminati conspiracies.

For similar gameplay and subject Gabriel Knight in particular he 3rd game.

I believe it is Hotel Dusk, I also enjoyed that game.
