I recently started playing Broken Sword 1: Directors Cut and are already stuck at the first (and hopefully last!) cryptogram puzzle. I also sucked when trying to solve these in CSI: Miami the Game, so wanted to hear if people had any general tips for solving these kind of puzzles. Tried consulting Wikipedia, but that didn't help much. Is there maybe some in-game cue I have missed, or do these puzzles purely rely on skill?

Some quick tips:

1.E , T and A are the most common letters in the English alphabet.
2. If you find a word with two or three letters, it may be "the" or "are", or you should try for personal pronouns (I, you, he/she etc.) or "It".

If you'd like to know more, read the short story "Gold-Bug" from E.A.Poe, it contains a very detailed and entertaining step-by-step guide for solving cryptograms. :)

He he actually read that one in his completed works, but can't access it right know. Maybe I should reread it when I get the chance.

You are wrong ;) You will get more of them soon ;) Sorry to disappoint you
The director's cut has actually pretty neat hints so if you really don't know, just use them, they don't spoil anything and you won't have to look for walkthroughs and stuff all over the internet
