I'm having trouble running BS5 on my Windows 8.1 x64 machine with a native 1,366x768 resolution.

When I try to run the game, I only get a black screen with the menu music running in the background and am unable to move the mouse pointer on screen.

When I switch to the windowed mode with alt+enter the game works fine.

The Revolution support site for the game says I should "disabling the display scaling" option for the BS5 exe and update the game to v1.01 - both of which didn't fix the problem for me unfortunately. I've made sure that I have the latest version of the game and that the DPI scaling option is checked.

Anyone having this problem as well?

Before trying something else:
- Make sure your graphics drivers are up-to-date
- Do you have an on-board and an additional discrete graphics card? If so, force your system to use the discrete one.
- Also try enabling vertical synchronization (Vsync) in your graphics card control panel. (try the following also with vsync off)

After all, the game still has major issues with handling different resolutions in full-screen. This might be a bug, that only a new patch can fix. The windowed mode runs in 1280x720, so I'd try to set the desktop resolution to exactly the same values and see what BS5 is doing now.

With the new patch, they changed full-screen behaviour. There are two modes now:
Mode 1 (default): The resolution of your monitor will be changed to 1280×720 (maybe this doesn't work in your case)
Mode 2: The game uses the desktop resolution and stretches the image to that size. If your desktop resolution is not 16:9, the game will look distorted, but the image will fill the whole screen.

You can force mode 2 by editing the "vt7.ini" file
(It's usually here: Users\<UserName>\Documents\Broken Sword 5\)
Set "fullscreen=2" for mode 2
Set "fullscreen=0" for windowed mode
