Okay, so I went to Montfaucon for the first time, and was completely stuck. So I looked at a walkthrough, and it says check the statue to look through the scroll. Well, that doesn't work, because all he says is "if this statue has any secrets it's well hidden." So I looked at a walkthrough on YouTube, and there's supposed to be a priest there too, but there's no priest for me. A glitch, maybe? I reloaded and still nothing.

I think you have to click directly on the scroll.

The priest not appearing is not a glitch, he only appears the second time you visit montfaucon, that's a long way off from your first visit.

I think you're looking at the wrong part of the walkthrough, your first time at Montfaucon you don't actually need to go into the church itself, you need to deal with the Juggler outside to get into the sewers.
