Hello,

I just purchased Broken Sword: Director's Cut. I was really happy to see that the soundtrack had been made available as a bonus. The file size on the download page is 24 MB. However, the file is really 78 MB big, this should be fixed.

Also, and more importantly, after successfully downloading the broken_sword_music.ZIP file, when try to decompress is with 7-ZIP, I get an an error massage saying "cannot open file as an archive."

After checking the file properties, the size is 81 798 656 bytes and the "size on disk" is 81 798 656 bytes. The MD5 checksum is aeef854b30b3f2ebc7cb356c3d615da2

I have XP SP3 and 7-ZIP 4.65 (and subsequently with the latest version 9.20). Has anybody else encountered this issue? Thanks for your help!

Yeah, I had the same problem, the .zip is apparently cut off in the middle. I was able to run a repair utility on the file, which let me extract some of the files - the rest is in the missing part.

As a work-around, the soundtrack is also available in the installed game directory, in .ogg format (not sure how many media players can read that).

Hey mecirt,

Thanks for your reply. What tool did you use? Did you notify GoG about this? I sent them a support request, no doubt they will do something about it!

As for the .ogg files, thanks for the tip! I can't install the game for the time being but I'll keep that in mind!

No, I didn't. As for the tool, I used the linux version of zip :) Google returns several windows-based applications that can do the same, one of them should do the trick.

Hey,

If you mean "zip" as an application, there are dozens of "linux version of zip" out there, it really depends on what archive manager is installed by default in your distro and what other programs you have installed on it afterwards.

I tried to decrompress the archive in Fedora 14 with the default Archive Manager (File Roller 2.32.0) but I get an error message there as well, and visibly no option to repair it. As a matter of interest, can you please provide a little further info on what archive manager you use and how you managed to extract even partially some of the files in the archive?

Also in Fedora I ran the zip command line in a terminal with the -F switch to repair the archive, but to no avail either, I receive an error message..

The terminal version of zip, yes.
zip -FF archivename.zip
unzip archivename.zip

zip -FF archivename.zip
unzip archivename.zip
Ah thanks, that did the trick on a few tracks at least :-)

Cheers! Now waiting for a valid archive from GoG to listen to the other tracks ;-)

Worked just fine for me last night.

The indication of a 24 MB size is a mistake. The file is actually 195 MB.

I downloaded the file twice now using two different pc's and both times the file downloaded ok. I use IE8 for gog downloads.
OK This really baffles me. I tried in Win XP SP3 using Firefox 3.6.13 and IE8, cookies deleted and cache emptied, Firefox 3.6.10 in Fedora 14, and in all cases I still get a 78 MB file..

Thanks for your answers folks..Will see what GoG have to say to that now :-/
I have exactly the same problem as well. I see a 78MB zip and it's corrupted. Firefox 3.6.13 here too.

PS: Just found out about gog today, bought the Broken Sword Series and I have to say I'm excited about the site, even if they never fix the music download it's still an amazing site. *fanboy*
Right. The download size displayed on the product page has been rectified, and the file name has been changed to broken_sword1_music.zip.

Upon downloading, the estimated filesize is now 195 MB, so I suppose the issue is now closed..

Thanks.
Hold on a second. Out of the 29 tracks contained in this archive, nine of them ("cantbelieve", "leaving", "lovingyou", "outofsight", "rb_remix", "Someday", "Stars", "watching", "yousaid") clearly do NOT belong to this soundtrack! Some of them are FM rock, some of them kinda R&B, totally out of place on this album.

Furthermore, none of the tracks are properly tagged with the usual artist name and track names, but have "Music xx" xx being a track number instead..

As well as that, it's the first soundtrack I've downloaded on GoG with such a high bitrate (320 kbps) where they are usually 128 kbps..

I am disappointed as I am used to better bonus content from GoG :-(

I think that the songs you're talking about are the songs that play in the radio in Nico's appartment. And if I may, I think you're exaggerating just a tad, this is a 2 year old game and they give an over 200 MB extra content all for 3-6$. I believe it's ok if the tracks aren't named the exact way you want.

OK I didn't know they were the tracks played at Nico's apartment, thanks for the info. They just sound so out of place.

It's not that they aren't named "the way I want", it is that they aren't named "the way they should be" ;-)

Yeah OK I know it's not a big deal. I pretty much bought the GoG version for the soundtrack alone, being the proud owner of the vanilla version on DVD and the DC on Steam already.. Can't wait to install the game to retrieve the .ogg files then ;-)

Cheers.

"The way you want" wasn't sarcastic, forgive me for poor english, you're right I should have said the way they must be.
