TejaRex: I just downloaded, installed, and got stuck at the old tree too. I have a new Pentium machine with single AMD card. After 20+ times, I discover the secret, at least on my install. At the 4th roof, perhaps kill one man, but leave at least one alive and go out on wire just past the first post. Once the spider is stuck, turn and fire one shot back at man. Immediately turn and chase after spider (if it unsticks, as it often did.) You have NO time to lose.
When that wire ends, jump thru water and up onto wire to left. When 2nd wire ends, wire to right is inviting but wrong. Jump thru water to another wire to left. If I remember (may have left something out, -- perhaps jump to rooftop and out on 4th wire attached to left end of house.) run to end of wire in middle of nowhere and cut scene starts.
This took about 30 tries total. I really hate this sort of take 10s of tries platform jumper in the middle of what is promoted as an action shooter.

Also, I didn't feel like it was any harder or feeling like I was out of time using your technique, I was able to do it effortlessly the first time... I ran quite a bit through the water though and lost some health but that was no problem since in the next area you'll instantly be greeted by some humanoid enemies to replenish your health :)
