I got this game but can't actually play it at all because of constant crashes. When I start a new game, it works for a few seconds, but has little boxes that appear randomly on each video frame, then it crashes with the following error:

DirectX error
Code: 88760868
Description: The device is lost and cannot be restored at the current time, so rendering is not possible.
While trying to do this: Present the back buffer.

If I run it in OpenGL mode, it simply crashes and I get an error saying Nocturne (TM) has stopped working.

I have a Radeon HD 6800 and Catalyst 13.12 installed. I'm running Windows 7 64 bit.

Is there anything I can do to get the game working?

This game doesn't seem to like multi-core CPUs. So you have two choices:

1. start game and wait on initial graphics config screen
2. Open taskmanager (Control+Shift+Escape)
3. If you run the game with elevated privileges, choose "Show process from all users", else you'll get an error in step 4
4. Right click "rayne.exe" and choose "Set Affinity...". Deselect everything except "CPU 0"

Or choose "Windows 98" in the compatiblity settings for the game. One of the effects is that it sets affinity to "CPU 0".
