I have a problem and a question:

I own this game on Steam (NO please, do not discard this topic, I know this is not the Steam forum, go ask there, I've already done that), it was one of my old time favorites when I was a kid and I remember that I played for a little while with my steam account, something like 2 to 3 years ago on Windows 7 x64. Now I want to play it again, but with great horro it appears not to be compatible with Windows 8.1 x64, it keeps crashing right after the first little window of configuration giving a generic "application stopped working" or DirectX error 8876086c (if I try compatibility modes or if I force it on single core).

Now I ask you: if I'll buy the gog version of this game, is Windows 8.1 compatible at 100%? I really don't want to get a headhache trying to fix some compatibilty issues that cannot be fixed.

Have anyone here ever had any problems with Windows 8.1 and this game?

My specs:

MOBO: P8P67
CPU: i7 2600
GPU: GTX 670
RAM: 8GB

I've run Bloodrayne (GOG version) on my old Windows 8 laptop and my new Windows 8.1 laptop with no problems EXCEPT when messing around with the graphics options. I don't know what Steam's startup window (if it has one) for Bloodrayne is like but GOG's has you select resolution, Renderer and Graphics Card. Choosing the wrong Renderer (or Graphics Card if you have multiple I suppose) will cause it to crash when it goes to actually launch the game.

Perhaps that's your issue? For me one of its Renderer options (OpenGL) crashes the game when it tries to launch.
I think that the problem is GPU driver or (more likely) DirectX Backward compatibility related...I've tried every possible combination of settings and nothing works...I think I may be missing something on my dx...

Attached is the window I am referring to.

Try re-installing DirectX - http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

Can't say it works 100%, but I had no issues installing and playing it with windows 8.1 64 bit
i'm trying to play it in win 8.1.1 (GOG version)

if i try to get higher graphics resolutions the game crashes, if i left the game in its old 640*480 res it plays fine

i have a xbox360 wired controller, i can set it up but the game recognizes that i'm moving the sticks so Rayne moves even when i'm not touching the controller at all

i'm trying to tinkering how to fix this in a more user friendly way, but the guys at GOG should try to fix the resolution isses
I'm playing it on a Windows 8.1 64 bit machine with (the horror!!) Intel HD Integrated "graphics" at max settings with a very fast frame rate in Direct X. All resolutions work, though I'm playing using 1024x768 because higher resolutions cause slight slowdown, plus they would be overkill for Bloodrayne's detail anyway.

The only problem I have is if I try to select Opengl from the launcher; it causes an error and the game won't even start.
