Hello.

This is my first post on this site. I have reached the level ' Research and Development' in chapter 3 of Blood 2.

After the doctor gives his speech at the start of the level I am in a corridor with a locked door on the left that says "Access denied" when I press it. To the right is a pen with three monsters and a scientist that gets killed immediately. There is also a panel with a hand symbol on the left wall of the pen that does nothing.

Does anyone know what I am supposed to do at this point? I would very appreciate some help on this level.

Thank you.

The scientist in the biosphere is supposed to have a security pass. Do a gib check.
I admit that my memories are a little vague but I remember I was stuck at that part, too.

If I remember well, I had to search one of the holding pens (with the monsters) for a dark opening which granted me access to the sewer (and let me get behind a force-field into an otherwise innaccessible room which contained an access card, though it may be a later part of the same level).
There's also a part in this level where you have to jump on the moving fans of a great grinder to reach the opposite part of he room.

From what I've found, the scientist at the start only drops a life essence when he gets killed.

I was incorrect in my first post. Nothing has to die to spawn the passcard. It's in the very first biosphere next to a health powerup and some flares. I'd post a bitmap image but the file is too big. I ran the map a few times in coop mode. the card is always there. It could be a bounding box issue.

I think you're right about it being a graphics or scripting issue, as I am using the extra crispy mod v.2.0, which could be part of the problem.

Do you know any cheat codes that can give me this card or any cheats that let me skip this level altogether?

Thank you.

Ahhh, did you say the extra crispy mod? That mod contains the older Lie Flat weapons mod, which shrinks the collision box on all the power ups including the pass cards. I recently put a similar project for Shogo on hold because dropped weapons kept falling through the floor. That might be your problem. If you were in the mood for some winrez hackery I'd suggest opening up the E.C. REZ containing the POWERUPS folder and deleting it, then hitting save on winrez. That would cause the game to default back to the old bounding boxes and you could keep your saved games. If your not in the mood (and you stated your already willing to cheat) you can always type:

tmpgoshopping

and hit enter. This should give you all items. check your inventory first as I'm not sure you'll get the key cards.
And zZaRDoZz gets one point.

I just ran the coop version of R&D with the extra crispy mod and sure enough, no keycard in the first biosphere. Let's see what happens with the keycard model deleted...

If this is some kind of problem I'll definitely make a patch to fix this. I was unaware that the Lie Flat models would cause any problems. Should the weapon models be removed too or just the powerup models? I haven't noticed any weapon models falling through the floor.

VGames, keep in mind that the OP was able to get all the way to R&D using your mod. That means the key cards are appearing most of the time. The geometry within that biosphere is a little "natural terrianish" which is probably part of the issue. Some weapons in blood2 and shogo will merge with walls if they are dropped too closely to geometry. On balance I think blood 2 is easier with your mod (and LFweapons) then harder, but that's something only you can decide.

Here's the link to a version of the Enhancer pack with the key cards removed. Doing so causes b2 to revert to the old key card so OP can use the original saved game.
Just remove the rez labeled Enhancer_pack (not the EC one) and replace with this. I think one texture was left unsaved by that silly winrez. I doubt you'll notice.

Thanks for fixing that but since it's not really a huge issue like you said I'm not gonna make a patch for this at ModDB. So this update will not be an official update for my mod.
Hello again.

First, I would like to say thank you very much for your help and support.

I have tried out the new file and restarted the level using the 'Restart: Research and Development' save file, which the game created automatically at the top of the saved games list when I first entered the level.

However, When I used this save file to restart the level, I found that the key still didn't appear anywhere in the biosphere. I have even restarted this level using this save file but without the extra crispy mod and without the Nightmares add-on but the card still didn't appear.

I have no doubt that this new file fixes the problem but I think I need to restart this level a diiferent way in order for this file to work, such as warping back to the previous level and restarting this level from there.

Additionally, I tried the code 'tmpgoshopping'. This code gave me all the standard inventory items in the game, such as the flashlight, the time bombs etc, but it didn't give me all of the keys for this level as I thought it would.

Fortunately, I have found a workaround of this problem by typing 'tmpclip'. This code took me into spectator mode, which allowed me to pass through the locked door without the key. To carry on with the game I typed the code again, which allowed me to carry on as normal on the other side of the door.

Thanks again for all of your help. The rsponses I've received have beem far better than I have expected and I fuuly appreciate al of your contributions.

Tank you very much.

That's okay as It doesn't fix OP's problem. Speedyshare doesn't keep files loaded forever so this will disappear in about a week or two.

Have you tried that launcher command that enables all retail maps. I think it's "+enableretaillevels". I did a little tweaking so that this map select command would also let you skip to Ophelia's Nightmare map. Vanilla B2 with the NL expansion would not let you do this. So I fixed it with my mod. Just put it in the command prompt in the B2 launcher and select the custom map option to pick which map you want to start on.
