Howdy. I'm seriously considering picking this up, but was wondering if there was a frontend that took advantage of newer hardware to clean the game up? Other old games I've picked up like doom/doom2, heretic, descent, descent 2 all seem to have a frontend out there that makes the game run a little smoother and look a little better.
Just wondering if anyone knows of anything like that for Blood? I saw the frontend posted, but it seems to be more of a file-managing program than anything else.
No.
There hasn't been a source code release yet (which is what lets people add functionality and compatibility to work on modern hardware to the old games without resorting to emulating software like Dosbox or some serious configuration using the "Build on XP" guide).
We can only work around it for now, adding new content, using external controller applications that fix mouselook a bit and such... we can't make it run at 1920x1080 with modern retexturing or lighting like some modern ports do until we get the source code, and this is something the community has tried to obtain for YEARS now...
The only option is various projects that port the game to a doom/duke/whatever existing port (check zBlood for instance), but then they have to write game code and usually build the maps from scratch again, which means the game isn't 100% similar anymore and is usually just an approximation.
I have hope in Cradle 2 Grave (another project that's still ongoing), though. :)
