I loved and still love Shogo, and I might buy Blood 2 if it plays at all similarly. Obviously there won't be any mech fighting, but I preferred the on-foot combat of Shogo anyways.

No, blood2 plays a little more like quake2 or Doom2, with lots of dodging of projectiles, melee fights, and cramped quarters fighting. Armor and ammo are plentiful, the melee combat ranges from laughable ( soul drudges can't possibly catch you or even your legless grandmother ) to annoying ( boneleeches stick to your face and wont come off ).
Both playing in simliar manner as they share same engine and AI/weapon behaviour but many stuff plays a little different due to more open environmental area of effect and less crowded spaces (except indoors and urban streets). Many weapons are faithful to Blood1 ones but scripts doesn't loop so if you throw something or use voodoo doll then load game, voodoo doll lock on you and bombs will not explode. All characters have different stats but since they are summoned from alternate reality they don't have their own story like didn't exist between story related instances and rifts, only Caleb. This is Blood1 in 3D in modern/futuristic theme, with many flaws but also many traits. Gameplay is the same as first game or on-foot Shogo gunplay but for people who played first game, Blood1 that whole 3D stuff can be distracting and can have outdated feel to it.
Thank you. I think I'll get Blood 2 when it (likely, at least) goes on sale this coming Christmas.
