Those hands that choke you in Blood 1 -> you can in theory get them off you by mashing the open key.

But it only works if you do it right as they grab you. If they stay for even a quarter of a second and the screen turned black, thats it, you're dead.

NOTHING works. You can't bomb yourself, you can burn yourself, nothing short of death clears it.

Its quite ridiculous. Why is that so? There is nothing I hate more in a game than something that just kills me instantly from full health and full armor.

They are easier to get off at lower difficulty levels. If you are playing on extra crispy, yeah, they are almost impossible.
I am. I even tried using autofire scripts to get them off and it doesn't work (up to 50 times a second, I mean jesus christ!)

It's probably unrelated but the recent difficulty selection glitch involving extra crispy might be playing a role in this.

For now, the tactics used for dealing with hell hands on any level setting should allow you to progress. First off, don't risk them getting on you, once you hear "I'll swallow your soul" you should be back peddling. They can't climb or jump and have to touch your hitscan to attach, so if you can jump up atop any geometry reasonably above their height, this should protect you. Splash damage weapons are an absolute must against them, so tnt, alt-fired spray cans, napalm launcher, voodoo doll, are best. You can get them with the pitchfork while crouching, but only as a last resort as it's chancy.
The hands die with a single bullet from the Tommy Gun, and about 3 shots in higher difficulties, so I've never really had a problem with them attaching onto me very much. However, the other day I had just beaten the game again, so I thought I'd have another go but with cheats for fun. I came across a hand with god mode on, and since I had the cheat on, he just joked me continuously 'til I got annoyed from the blackness and tried shaking them off, and it wouldn't come off.
Another little glitch I've noticed with the hands, (let's imagine we're in a hallway) is when they attach themselves to you, if you run along a wall (sometimes crouching helps it) Caleb's speed will magnify and you will end up on the other end of the hallway in a second. This also happens in Blood 2 with any bug/spider/hand.

It has something to do with CPUspeed. I remember I was terrified of them when I was younger because there was just no way to deal with it once it got on.

I think the last time I played Blood I had to use some kind of CPUkiller program for levels that I knew there were hands.

The easiest solution is just to save a lot and through buckets of explosives whenever you hear them about to attack...

Well, being as Blood is now run through DOSBox (as DOS now needs to be emulated to run on new systems), and DOSBox is quite CPU intensive, I wouldn't have thought you'd need to worry about CPU killers any more as you can just throttle back the cycles on DOSBox if it runs too fast (but you aren't likely to need to throttle back cycles with this game).

It may have been a setting in the Dosbox config. I do remember it had to do with the CPU being too fast to register the open key during a choke session.

I either read it somewhere on this forum or a Dosbox Vogon place.
Really? It works for me whatever the delay before I mash the open key. Not sure on Extra Crispy difficulty though.
