Blood is one of the best classics ever; HOWEVER...
I've been waiting for both blood games ever since i've seen shogo on gog. I've been a fan for years, including a blood tattoo.
However I gave this game one star due to the downloaded game from GOG. I used to play blood on my laptop occationally using DOSBOX. I expected that GOG would deliver Blood which is XP and Vista compatible; no strings attached. the problem is that the game offered on GOG is using DOSBOX; anyone could download DOSBOX and adjust a few ini settings to make the game work without getting it from GOG. With all due respect, i feel let down, since it's not GOG that is giving us blood here, but a smple DOSBOX ammulation. to make stuff worse the frame rate is horrible, i'll stick to my previous blood installation with my doxbox installation, avoids all the hassle.
Pity, quiet let down for a GOG product,

I'll bite.

So you suppose they should have rewrote the game from a scratch to make it a Windows-native application?..
Many (maybe most) GoG games use DOSBox and it has never been a secret that they do this.

As someone who didn't have a chance to purchase Blood when it was available at retail, I'm glad GoG has rereleased this awesome game. If they hadn't. I would have either had to risk a purchase from eBay/Amazon/where ever, or just never have a chance to play (I'm not even going to give the P word the time of day).

It's way better than the tribal tattoos that idiots (that aren't even in a tribe) get.
Dude sick tattoo! I adore the art direction of the Blood games, I just wish they came up with some original dialogue to give their characters some personality.

Anyways have you tried to play Blood 2 on Windows 7? I'm sure you haven't, most people can't. Dosbox has been so far one of the best solutions to get games working on 7. I'm thankful for it and I don't have a freaking clue why people whine about. GOG hasn't done a terrible job at updating games to run on modern OSs and hardware, but I really wish they did better. I've spent too much money on games that don't run on my main PC.

You've got a point. I could understand that some people may expect there to be an entire redux of a DOS game, however this is very very difficult. GOG.com does not have the time to focus on one game and begin coding a new engine or, if even possible, modifying the code of the game itself in order for the game to work on windows without extras. GOG.com has to continue releasing more games so THAT much focus on a single game is just too much. There are people who do end up coding new engines for DOS games, but those people have spare time and the correct resources. Blood's source code has not been released(even though im not 100% informed about the story) so no one could create\modify an engine specifically for Blood's files. All in all, don't be blamin this on GOG.com. After all, we still get our blood.

Have you ever tried configuring Blood to run on an otherwise incompatable operating system yourself? It's a living nightmare! There is a guide (deathmask.net I think) that details this, a large guide with god knows how many steps in order to get Blood to work and even then lots of people have still had problems (including myself). You even have to download pre-made VDM Sound Shortcuts with their own configurations as well to get it to work. Then there are the additional steps if you've got any hope of multiplayer working.

GOG have done us a great service here. I think expectations are lofty if you're expecting rewriten games, especially when these guys are not the original programmers. Also I can now deathmatch with the two of my friends that are Blood fans. Well done GOG!

And BLood runs fine on the more recent builds of DOSBOX. The earlier versions did have problems running the Build engine games, but the versions that have been out for about the last two years run Build games fine if you have enough oommph in your CPU.
So Postaled. Do you own the game in retail version? If not, are you saying we shouldnt buy the game from GoG because it can be pirated?

Edit: Personally I'd much rather pay a tiny amount of money (cause the prices on Gog are super cheap) than spend hours, maybe days getting an emulator to run the game perfectly.

I for one have never played blood until I purchased it on a whim a couple weeks back and it runs unbelievably well on my computer, which runs on windows 7 OS. In the past when I've tried to use dosbox on my own, the results are either mixed or not working right. Now, for six bucks you get an amazing game (again first time i played it was two weeks ago) that runs flawlessly. Sure maybe a lot of you can finagle with the settings to get this bad boy working properly, but may of us can't or don't have the patience. that is the beauty of GOG, they make these classic games as easily accessible to the masses as possible so all we have to do is pay, download, and play. Its brilliant. So, there's no reason to complain when you know this is exactly what you paid for - a playable good old game that works on the most modern of systems.

I obviously have the retail version, I wouldn't be such a hypocrite to complain if i had a pirated version.

Never pirated a game in my life.
PS: thanks all for your feedback!
