I've been having a lot of fun playing the original Blood an its expansions, so naturally, I'm curious about Blood II. Now, I'm well aware that it's generally considered inferior to its predecessor, and also doesn't have a lot in common with it, taking place in more contemporary settings against more contemporary threats. I'm willing to accept those things and still purchase the game, under one condition.

Is Blood II scary?

Now, the original Blood wasn't, like, jump-out-of-your-seat scary or anything, but it was definitely very moody, with lots of eerie environments to traverse, and dangerous foes occasionally appearing where you least expect them and giving you a jolt. Does Blood II have any of that? Or is it pretty much just lots of shooting without any atmosphere?

Thanks for any feedback!
IMO: Blood II isn’t scary, and in places it’s just boring. Pore level design can make it hard to even find the exit for a few of the maps (the office building being the worst of the lot for that). You will end up double back a bit in places, if you are not vaguely familiar with the map in question. The weapons are entertaining and they generally do a good amount of damage, but there’s not much in the way of a complex strategy when using them. You can tell they did try to put in some interesting environments, I won't spoil it by listing them but they are still a little rough. You end up doubling back on some "connecting maps" 2, even 3 times.

The general excuse is that Blood II wasn’t really finished and GT had Monolith put it out the door to soon.

In short, it's a $2 Philly cheese stake sandwich. You know from the start that it's not going to be best sandwich you've even had, and you wont be surprised to find it's only barely consumable. But if your a sucker for a Philly, you'll probably pay the $2 and risk the chance of food poisoning.
