The thread the closest to my problem was marked as solved even though many people seem to still have the problem. The game crashes a few minutes into playing.

I don't know how to deal with DosBox much. I know that changing the display setting has some effect, but it mostly just delays the crash a bit (5 minutes instead of 2...). The game won't even boot in any compatibility modes.

I run XP 32 bits.

The game seems to often crash when I pick up an item and the yellow flash comes into the screen. For instance, I'll grab dynamite off the ground and the flash to indicate I just picked something seems to often crash the game (not every time).

Edit: argh not posted as support ...

I'm getting the same thing, upon picking up a voxel (3d) object, the game crashes most of the time :(

Okay I managed something... But first make sure you follow the steps described here

Or at least, make sure you follow them or update your graphics card and DirectX drivers if it still doesn't work after trying what I did... I also uninstalled Norton antivirus and changed it to AVG, dunno if that was related to anything but there you go.

So yeah, go in your game's folder and boot gog's graphic setup program. Select a different one (opengl worked for me). The problem seems to be that the .conf file doesn't follow suit.

Open (with notepad or wordpad or something) the file that should be named like dosboxblood.conf (I'm on a different computer so I don't know right now the exact name but should be easy to find) or maybe in this case dosboxonebloodunit.conf (?). Make a backup of that file before you change it in case something goes wrong. In the first page of this file you will see the line

output=overlay (or output=surface or I dunno which one is there by default)

Make sure that it says

output=opengl (in my case since it's what I selected earlier)

Basically, output=whatever graphic mode you selected with the graphic setup from gog. I dunno if it's normal or what it did, but making sure gog's setup program and this file said the same thing has made things a lot better for me.

Also make sure you are playing at the lowest (ugly I know) resolution. Although after the settings I described I seem to be able to run it in 640X480 also it is slightly choppier.

This also fixed a similar problem I had with Settlers 2..
