Given that Gamespy is finally dying, and with it online gameplay for Blitzkrieg 1, I would like to ask the GoG team if they would request permission to Nival Interactive to make a full source release of the Enigma Engine under a Free/Libre Software License for purposes of maintaining the game alive within the community and maybe creating a new community-ran master server for hosting sessions, as well as porting the game to alternative platforms like Mac and Linux.

Aside from that, the engine's capabilities are fantastic, and it could provide plenty of interesting opportunities to amateur developers. Given the game is already available DRM free, no one would have nothing to lose with a full source code release.

Sorry for the lateness of this update for Blitzkrieg 1 Anthology Multiplayer

I have been working closely with NIVAL to solve the GameSpy shutdown issue.

A Patch has now been created, but still in final stage of testing. The Interface Code that I have written removes GameSpy from the Proprietary Server Option, and changes it to OpenSpy.

NIVAL has tentatively approved the Patch which Modifies your Anthology Version to 1.3.1. Anthology, which includes the original Blitzkrieg, Burning Horizon and Rolling Thunder, will all benefit from the Series of patches that will be released. The overall Anthology Suite will be modified to Version 1.3.1 with the patch, which will allow for the first time, the Proprietary Server Option through OpenSpy.

In the next few days I expect the formal announcement of the Official "BK Anthology 1.3 MP Patch". I also expect that NIVAL will provide the Patch to GOG to include with all future Anthology Downloads.

Let me clear so there is no misunderstanding. When GameSpy finally shuts down the Blitzkrieg Server, your Anthology version will not be able to use the GameSpy Option. You will only have LAN and Internet options available.
The GameSpy Multiplayer Option on the Multiplayer Menu is what we call the Proprietary Server Option. The Patch restores this Option by directing your Game to OpenSpy.

I might add that OpenSpy is not a Commercial Enterprise just wanting your money. It was developed by gamers for gamers to solve the GameSpy shutdown of hundreds of games. Blitzkrieg has been thoroughly tested on OpenSpy and performs equal or superior to GameSpy. Because we have a very active Blitzkrieg 1 development team, we have a very close relationship with the Staff at OpenSpy and provide IT and Server Support for the Blitzkrieg 1 Platform.

Note: Only original versions of Burning Horizon and Rolling Thunder can be used in the OpenSpy Option. We are working to incorporate the Anthology Hi Res Patch as part of this update. The Anthology Hi Res Patch resolves the issue of the missing High Resolution Option in the Graphics Options for Rolling Thunder. it also adds to the game files, the missing HI RES textures... the 1_h.dds and 2_h.dds, etc. texture files.

For those that do not already have the Anthology Patch, it can be downloaded from my MediaFire Site. Be sure to also download the config.cfg and place it in your run folder. This is the actual configuration file needed to force the Hi Res Option.

Go to the Blitz Serbia Forum and find my Media Fire Site in my signature. I have a Thread called Major Pain's Projects so I am not hard to find. Or you can send me an email and I will send the Anthology Hi Res Patch to you.
