My computer did an automatic update for Windows 7 on Jul 17 and since then BlitzKrieg crashes on starup ( game has stopped working error)

Has anybody Else had this problem?

I don't have this problem, but maybe you want to try the compatibility mode on the .exe-file? Another option would be to save all savegames and then just reinstall the game. Maybe the error will not occur again.
