While Blitzkrieg 3 was announced over a year ago (August 2013), we didn't get that much information about the game. Obviously that has changed by now: A YouTube channel exists where you can see some gameplay videos. Also the official website introduced the different campaigns, armies and bases that will be available in Blitzkrieg 3. What was missing though: A release date.

A few days ago Nival decided to announced the release of Blitzkrieg 3 for early 2015:

Since I love the series I am more than happy to see the latest Blitzkrieg is coming that soon! What I have seen in the past looks promising. Who else is waiting for this successor? And: Let's hope the game will be released on GOG too! :)
As much as I've been hoping to see BK3, I can't say I' impressed after what I've seen and heard. Firstly, game will be free-to-play, with multiplayer component. Paid campaigns will be there, but AFAIR, they are not main priority, and they will be "short-term" ones, dedicated to certain operations. I can' say this is dealbreaker, as, if I'm not mistaken, current team leader has been working on Stalingrad, which is one of my favorite BK1 derivative, but "there is more". So instead of having game that would contain entire wartime period (even if in our imagination mostly), we'll have some odd mix of CoH-style (or Prime World, if you like) base bulding for free, and paid campaigns, with odd selection of units (if those are only units present in game), reminding me of BK2 units system. I can't say I didn't liked CoH gameplay (yet prefer Warhammer anyway:)), but I can't say I liked BK2. Quite the contrary. In addition, I can't say I'm impressed by Nival's handling of their recent products. Therefore, I have my doubts regarding their capability to hande BK3. So for now, instead of being excited about one of my favorite games' "heir", I'm rather pessimistic.
And I do hope Nival devs will handle their stuff themselves, without putting that load on GoG support team's shoulders.
Nival was fragged badly by Ubi when they were hired to make HOMM V. They almost went bankrupt due to that deal. And they were lucky. Black Hole Entertainment closed its doors after developing M&M: Heroes 6 and Limbic was almost in the same situation (luckily, M&M X: Legacy was a moderate success).

Nival barely survived and just recently started to actually recover from the blow. I hope that they will treat the IP better. Will wait and see, anyway, how BK3 will develop.

Not a big fan of BK2, either. I loved the original BK, played a ton of mods, too. BK2 i've finished it, but that was about it. I could probably replaying it today, because it's still a better game than most of the shovelware thrown at us lately.
