I've just downloaded and fired up Blitzkrieg Anthology and immediately run into a problem. After the intro, what I presume is the title screen loads and I can hear music, but the screen is completely black and the only way i've been able to get out of it is ctrl-alt-del and closing it via the task manager. Burning Horizon / Rolling Thunder is the same, though the first time I tried that shortcut, the game crashed immediately during loading. I've tried setting the compatibility to Win XP and disabling visual themes with the same result.

Anyone else having this problem or can suggest a fix?

Got a similar problem. I can select a campaign and start a game, but then I get a black screen und just hear the battle music. When I switch to the desktop with alt+tab and get back into the game, I see the map and my units, but cant give any commands. My Units won't move (Its NOT Pause Mode), shoot, doing anything at all.

I have Windows 7 64bit, tried setting the compatibility to WinXP too.
I have the same problem, when I start a mission (even a Tutorial), it goes back to the desktop but flickers between a black screen and the desktop. The music keeps playing and the game process is still active. The only thing I can do is Alt-Tab to the desktop and close the process with task manager.
Blitzkrieg used to have problems with dual core processors, especially X2s. In Task Manager try setting affinity to a single core.

Tried the affinity fix after some feedback from GOG support with no effect, it plays fine without a hitch on a quad-core laptop that a friend of mine has.

I have the same problem but with Vista 64 bit version, tried Gogs advices and some from here with no effect. Really hate this, gog is supposed to make their games work on new computers but this one dont -.- All other games I have from gog runs just fine :/
Damn lost money on a game I cant play now -.-

The thread is somewhat old, but a solution hasn't been posted yet and the issue could prevent others from enjoying the game.

bkpforums. com/downloads/Blitzkrieg%20Dual%20Core%20Patch .exe [remove spaces - sorry, had to circumvent the "cannot post links" blockade] - a patch for dual core systems. Took me a bit to find a source that still works, as all links I encountered led to the bkportal site, which seems to be defunct now. Anyway, the patch isn't a universal solution, as apparently it didn't help some people, but it worked for me (Athlon X2 64), so it's worth a try if you're having the black screen problem.

Had this same problem. Windows 7 x64. Set affinity to 1, set desktop resolution to the same as the game, set compatibility to WinXP. No luck, but setting compatibility to Win95 made it work for me.
I've had success with the dual core patch Ardis posted on 2 different PCs that had the same issue OP describes. No other fixes needed.
