Swedrami: You're aware that Galaxy is optional and, especially in case of singleplayer games, doesn't need to be installed in order to download, install, update and play games released on GoG, right?

Reikhardt4: Hi, yes I'm completely aware of that. but as I stated before I specifically want to buy the game on Steam (or at least obtain a Steam key) so that the game is with all my others in my Steam library. It's just a personal preference thing.
You can add the game to steam by clicking the +[Add a game] button in your library on the lower left, then using the list or file browser. The steam overlay may or may not work, but anyone else online will know you're playing it (if you're set to anything besides invisible or offline).

Yes, I'm aware of that function. However as I stated before, I want the game on Steam with all my other games. I merely started this thread to ask if it was planned for this game to eventually be released on Steam.

As a side note, I've clearly upset some people as I see my 'rep' is falling since I posted this. I'm sorry that my wish for consumer choice has offended anyone.

MaSeKind: Yep,I just checked and the license is owned by Alcon Interactive. It looks like they own the Blade Runner franchise. And I don't think Steam has ever had any Scumm games. But it's almost Christmas, so you never know :D
Toonstruck is on Steam and I believe it uses ScummVM!

As does Indiana Jones, The Dig, Curse of Monkey Island, etc. All on Steam and all use ScummVM. There are loads of games on Steam that use it.

Also, I'm pretty sure The Curse of Monkey Island/Escape From Monkey Island appeared on GOG first before eventually finding their way to Steam... so I don't think the OP's question was that silly.

They did. But they are on Steam now and do use ScummVM. I don't think its silly at all, and think its a valid question.

If you were gifted a DRM-free GOG copy of Blade Runner you wouldn't even accept that because "muh Steam"?
My problem with Steam is that Valve is more unethical and worse to their customers overall than GoG. Valve has COUNTRIES suing them! Think about that...

That's a bad sign for your ability to be heard as single customer.

Get it on GoG, even if you like some of the Steam benefits, thats my opinion.

Well, I guess if you were curious as to why the SCUMMVM team made such a huge deal about getting Blade Runner compatibility... here you go.
This is incorrect. We made a huge deal because we love the game. GOG.com securing the rights came to us as a surprise after we completed the project.
If you still want to hold your breath, go ahead... but this pretty much rules out Blade Runner (ever) being released on any other competing digital distribution platform, including Steam.
Because, again - why should GoG let any other direct competitor reap the rewards of their work?

To play devil's advocate, that could mean anything though - they might have secured the rights to sell the game with 12 months exclusivity, for example. As mentioned above, they've certainly had games exclusively in the past (Curse of Money Island) that later came to Steam.

My friends wouldn't gift me a Gog copy.

Sure, but given the - I imagine - absolute bitch of legal shit limbo GoG had to navigate and wade through for god-knows-how-many-years to finally secure the distribution rights (together with Alcon Interactive Group) it would be downright stupid to just make it available on another direct competitor's platform as well.

If I were GoG I would make damn sure that it stays exclusive "forever" or at least for as long as it takes for the expenses spent on untangling the rights to be paid off in full, with interest and then some.

Keep an eye or two on https://www.gog.com/forum/general, there's hardly any time where there isn't a give-away or a raffle held/organized by generous individuals/members of the community.
If you ask nice someone may even gift you a copy of Blade Runner right away and no questions asked.
It may show up on Steam in the months or years to come but only because GOG allowed Alcon to publish it there, it's not like GOG themselves will help support a competitor.

I guess we should just stop buying on GOG since all GOG "exclusives" eventually show up on Steam eventually (Activision, Disney, Square Enix, etc.) so we can have all our games in one place on Steam. Or should we stop buying on Steam so we can have all our games in one place on GOG? *thinks*
