Hello, take a look at these screens:

Its 3dfx and d3d. Which one is proper? Why there are difference?

Do both run okay for you?

3Dfx is the more preferred way to play Blade of Darkness and better fits the game's atmosphere and intended aesthetic. The GOG version includes a patch that added nGlide support (which enables 3Dfx rendering).

For me, rOpenGL is much better because I get bad performance from 3Dfx.

+1 for rOpenGL, it's also the only renderer that seems to work properly with driver-forced antialiasing.

I'm not sure why the skybox looks oversaturated / a different colour with it or D3D compared to 3Dfx.
So, 3dfx? VooDoo 3 i guess?

P.s. why intro video (before menus) is black? Just blank screen with sound.
For this game, opengl is probably a good choice.

There is no or little difference between the 3DFX and opengl versions from what I've seen and been told. Open GL offers more screen resolutions IIRC? But it might depend on what video card you are using as well... I've been using it on NVidia products.

There are definitely other 3dfx games where 3dFX mode unlocked certain aesthetic bells and whistles. Reflective floors better lighting and darkness, transparencies, higher resolutions (for its time), etc. King's Quest 8, Undying, Unreal, etc.

But I'm not sure what it does for this game?

One thing to keep in mind is that 3dfx was 16-bit card (well last generation Voodoo 5 was 32 bit I think, but very few games were made specifically for it in mind), and modern cards are 32bit or higher. So there are some definite color differences between the modes. Different set of textures even. D3D probably uses the higher color textures.

Nglide forces 32bit rendering, but generally speaking 16 bit textures are just forced into 16 bit.
Thx!

Though im not sure how my laptop with gf 4200go will handle opengl, cause its 2004 and, you know, nvidia didnt bother itself with ogl support...
Well you can test the direct 3d, if openGL doesn't work. It should be fairly similar to Open GL mode graphically.
EDIT: Strike what I said below. Get this fixed OpenGL renderer (instead of the fogfix mod) and use that, as it's more stable that trying to use 3dfx on newer systems and it's more accurate than the mod:

3dfx seems to make the game look the most like it's supposed to. OpenGL has messed up fog (and the fog "fix" mod goes too far the other way) and Direct3D is just a buggy mess.

I would recommend this wrapper over the one GOG included, though. The resolution is capped lower, (640x480) but the performance in water areas is way better.
