I know the game doesn't officially support controllers. But I made my own setup with Antimicro. On the original game it works great.

The left analog stick is for movement. On the new version, using the analog stick to move causes me to spin incredibly fast, and I can't figure out why. Setting movement to the D-pad works normally, but putting turning left and right on the left analog stick has me spinning in circles 3 or 4 times at the lightest brush to the left or right. It's weird, because the game should just be seeing a standard left arrow input (or A, tried with each) when I push the stick past the dead zone to the left. And as far as I can tell with Keyboard tester, this is exactly the input being fed from the controller. But in this game, my character turns at an impossible speed several times when I push the joystick left or right.

I've tried using the keyboard, and I cannot replicate the spinning effect with any input device that isn't my controller analog stick. Without Antimicro enabled, my controller does nothing. So I'm wondering if there is a hidden input being accessed by this wrapper or something that only happens when turn left and turn right are controlled by the left analog stick of the controller.

If anyone has any information or input, I'd love to hear it.

So I also bound the movement keys to the Right Analog Joystick, and the mouse look to the left joystick. Similar things happen, the camera goes all wonky when I look left or right (using the left analog stick) but when I use the right one everything functions as normal.

I believe they started to include controller support with this and there is some kind of hook happening only when I use a wrapper that is causing extremely high acceleration when using the left analog stick to look or turn left/right. I hope there's a hotfix for this coming soon because it's killing me right now. I'll go back to the original with the poor resolution support as long as I can play the game.

So another note is that the D-Pad Navigates menus, even when I have no special keys set on it. So this definitely has some half-assed baked-in controller support that was abandoned in place, and is messing with Antimicro when I'm using it to assign functions to the left analog stick. Weird. Further, I hope they remove this or implement controller support fully, one or the other so we can use a controller if we so choose. The half-way started but not finished controller support is hindering my enjoyability.
Hi,

I don't have a solution, but I can confirm this is also happening on my system after setting bindings with AntiMicro (Ubuntu 20.04).
I support your conclusions, I have only ever seen similar behaviour when there was some poor controller support kicking in in conjunction with the custom bindings in AntiMicro or when, as appears to be the case here, there is some residual controller input detection not fully implemented.

For my basic Logitech F310, there is crazy spinning/acceleration when turning, and I am also occasionally seeing the mouselook accelerating awkwardly when mapped to R Stick eg intermittently on ~every fourth command to look up or down, the mouselook will adjust to look all the way up or all the way down. :(

It would be great if, in place of any official controller support, that this part of the code could just be completely removed so that at least custom bindings for keyboard/mouse commands would be possible.

Maybe controller input detection will be possible natively at a later point... I am not expecting or hoping for eg a big fat console-style "A" button pop-up. I am just hoping it can be mapped from the controls screen and mainly that this residual configuration is removed.

Otherwise in love with this re-release. <3
I installed v67 today and can confirm the spinning no longer happens!
Thank you to whomever implemented that!

The only issue I'm having now is that the gamepad no longer works in the menus. Dpad no longer mysteriously recognised as keys without mapping - however, the L Stick mapped to WASD no longer works either. Guess you can't have it all.
I will need the menus less when I learn how to play the game and die less...

Very happy the spinning was resolved, regardless.

Excellent. To remedy the issue, use Arrow keys for movement and map them to the left stick. It seems as though the most recent release has patched out what little broken controller support they had left in.

Thanks, Paladin181,

That fixed it!
Only problem I have left is being unable to use any button for the Enter function in the menu.
I can't seem to find a remap in the game and have tried assigning Return to all of the gamepad's buttons...

Did you identify any workaround for that? c:

I assigned the "A" button to space (for jump) and Enter and it allows me to confirm choices on the menu. I assigned Start to ESC and use that to back out of menus.
