According to the manual, some enemies are weaker to particular types of weapon; I'm curious about this, particularly about whether a mace is better to use against skeletons than a sword (I would assume so from other games where swords aren't good on skeletons because they have no flesh to cut, but the mace doesn't seem so attractive if it doesn't work this way.)
Now that I think about it, I do believe skeletons take more damage from maces or atleast, they have resistance to edged weapons. I'm not sure if they take damage from poison weapons either. I'd also use blunt against golems too.

Can't remember if other enemies have other such vulnerabilities though.
If you check the CharData.py file in the /Stats/ folder in the Blade of Darkness directory, there will be a section on "Resistant enemies" that lists all their resistances (positive, as a percent 0.00-1.00) and weaknesses (negative, as a percent -1.00-0.00). You can open it with notepad.

This file also lists all of the various character and monster stats, so it can be useful to look at. I wouldn't recommend changing anything, however.
As I understand from strategy guides, "fleshy" enemies (humans, orcs, trolls, spiders, critters) are more vulnerable to edged weapons, while it is better to use a blunt weapon against hard and armored enemies like skeletons and golems. That's why I always carry at least a mace.
