I have tried literally everything to get this game working with Windows 8, spent hours fiddling with graphics card settings, various compatibility modes, etc. Anyway, I managed to get the setup to start by running in windows 98 compatibility mode, select res and settings, but the game will only run in 640x480 windowed mode, and as you can imagine on a 2560x1440 monitor it looks pretty dreadful.

Come on GOG sort it out please!! :)

The installer has been updated a few hours ago (these new installers usually add Windows 8 compatibility). The game worked straight out of the box on my Windows 7 after installation (while I usually have to tinker a bit with it to make it work decently). Maybe it'll solve your problem. What was your installer?
Thanks for the reply, re-downloaded and worked fine the first time i went into settings. I went in to the settings again to change the resolution and the resolution drop down menu is blank again.

You need to set the Config menu to 'XP SP3 compatibility mode' to fix the drop down menu.....and once you do that turn off 'HW Vertex Processing' and 'Multi Vertex stream' to fix the graphical problems
Hey, so i also had Windows 8 Pro (x64) and no compatibility settings work except for Windows 98 setting, with the windows 98 setting none of your settings save (tried multiple times [yes the registry keys are there]) and it gives you a 640x480 fullscreen window regardless of your settings but is hardly ideal. granted im using Steam. but this problem is mirrored exactly the same on Steam. There would appear to be no fix. i spent 3 days scouring the internet trying to find a fix. but i instead had to go back to windows 7 in order to run it.

if something has changed in the last week since i scoured the internet please let me know. would love to play this on Windows 8!

P.S.
i did manage to change the settings using windows compatibility troubleshooter in "test" mode where it actually seemed to work but wouldn't save the compatibility settings, i made a MS support thread about it, but in the end they just told me to contact Ubisoft for the support.
The GOG gamecard is false, the game does not work with Windows 8.
I have Windows 8 and the game works fine except for the audio synch issue. I haven't been able to figure out what to do about it yet, but otherwise it's fine.

Perhaps a video card issue?
I allmost did not buy this game because of this topic.
I have Windows 8 Pro (x64) too - and the game works just fine. I had to deactivate the "ingame"-Antialiasing. But i can force it in the driver settings.
With this settings it works - no sound problems.

I will have to try this.
@ ShadowWulfe

Yeah, had to deactivate the "HW Vertex Processing" in the Settings too, to avoid graphic glitches. but now i have no problems.

good luck!
Beyond Good and Evil works 100% with Windows 8.1

I've been playing it on a machine with Windows 8.1 (64-bit of course), with a dedicated AMD HD7950 GPU.

I do *not* have to use *any* compatibility mode, just install and run.

I did turn off the HW Vertex Processing and anti-aliasing in the setup. That's it. Running it in 1800x1440 resolution.

There's so much tosh being put out as "truth" about Windows 8 and games, and not a fraction of it true. The fact is that Windows 8.1 is amazingly good for older games, it is incredibly compatible with older APIs and runs anything from notoriously buggy games such as KotOR2 to Max Payne 1, just fine.

Including Beyond Good and Evil.

If the game isn't running for someone who is using Windows 8.1 then the problem lies in other things, old drivers, incompatible hacks or 3rd party tweaks or other hardware that is incompatible.

Do not run this game in any compatibility mode, not Windows 98, not XP, nothing. Just run it. It runs. If it doesn't, then contact GOG support, they'll help - but the problem is not Windows 8.1

Sorry haters.
