I have downloaded the game four or five times through both my browser using the ping method as well as the GOG Downloader and the problem persists. The file integrity check passes every time. The installation starts just fine every time, but when the installation reaches what looks like 98-99.9% it just hangs. No error given, no system lock-up, the installation just sits there at 98-99.9% complete for eternity. A desktop icon even pops up but the installer won't finish or finalize or whatever.

System Specs:

XP Pro fully updated
4GB RAM
GeForce GTX 260 core 216
Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (3.0GHz) CPU

Any help at all would be appreciated...
Oh, and I have not received any missing file errors...

It must be my system but I have no idea where to start diagnosing the problem.

Well, after a long while of trying to forget BG&E I tried installing it on a little side machine I've been tinkering with. BG&E installed perfectly. WTF... Why won't the game install on my main rig? I tried installing with the Adobe Reader option on and off, with make desktop icon on and off. Nothing works.

Maybe your antivirus software is messing with the installation? Also, did you try to install in a different location?

I did try to install with AVG turned off, still a no go. I'll try installing to different location. Thanks.

Okay, sorry i didn't update sooner. I tried to install to a different location and the installation still hangs at near completion. idkwtf. I was really looking forward to playing BG&E on PC for the higher resolution and better FSAA but I guess I'll have to settle for the XBOX version.
