This was the first game I played through GoG, and good thing it was free because I'll never purchase a game from this company in the future. I encountered a game-breaking glitch when the main character went into an elevator. The robot then followed him in, and I couldn't move anywhere or interact with anything on the screen. Then, when I went back to Windows (running Windows 7, mind you, which IS stated to be compatible with this game), I couldn't use my normal mouse at all.
Simply horrible, and I highly suggest you stay away from any and all titles this company offers.
Not sure if trolling...

Never had that problem with the elevator or any problems with the mouse either. When you "went back to Windows" did you exit the game or ALT + TAB to the desktop? How did your mouse stop working? Do you have a wireless mouse? could be the batteries.
I finished the game without any issues (Win7 64bit). But out of curiosity was it a random crash or does it happen everytime you go to elevator?

And on those rare occasions when emulator programme, like ScummVM, crashes and you for some odd reason lose control of your mouse you can still use keyboard commands in Windows Task Manager and close applications and processes which cause issues. After that you should get control of your mouse back.

I used the Windows key on my keyboard to go back to Windows. While on my desktop, I couldn't use my mouse...but when I pressed CTRL/ALT/DEL to go to the task manager, I could use my mouse there. I do have a wireless mouse, but given what I just explained, it's not the batteries of course.

@Olaus: It was a random crash. First one I encountered. I then uninstalled the game after that.

Just one crash and you both de-install and post this thread? That is rather harsh. You are stilll using Windows I understand - did that never crash on you? :)

Not harsh at all. And no, Windows has never failed me so far *knocks on screen*. I uninstalled it and posted my experience because I wasted almost 2 hours of my time on a video game. I'm not the type of person to be delighted when something like this happens :)

Apparently. Too bad that you removed the game, because if it was just a random glitch you could have just loaded your previous save and continue playing.

But the reason why people wondered your reaction is the fact that this game has relatively few bugs and crashes.

Personally I've been playing computer games since late 80s and during that time I have wasted a lot of time because game breaking bugs and glitches. My own first solution is to figure out if there's patch or workaround to a bug and usually there is and people here in GOG forum are usually willing to help to solve those issues others have with the games.

Wow, you must have the most stable system ever as my computers through the past 2 decades have crashed periodically here and there. Hell, even my iphone crashes, and that's a phone! Also, as this game is old, it's emulated so there may be some compatibility issues with Windows 7 (Remember, this was programed for an operating system 5-6 versions ago!). Are you telling me that if a program crashes for you once then you completely stop using it? Your web browser has never crashed before? Microsoft office?

I am playing the game and no crashes thus far. But what's the big deal, restart it, load the last save, go forward. It takes 5 minutes to restart and replay the area since the last save.
sorry this hapened to you but it sounds like you got trapped by a npc but when you minimized the game you lost all controlls. sounds like minor things and not gog's fult.

What the?

Old thread, ok. But you complained that your mouse wasn't working but you used the windows key to go back to windows, this is not the right thing to do.. there is a button to exit from the game menu.

I myself used alt+enter to check my desktop and it was really slow, this is due to scummvm, but i don't see the problem with it. At some point i found a trick to avoid freezes when going back to desktop. And anyway it was always going back to normal after going back fullscreen or closing the game.

You didn't live the DOS time, did you? When we were playing DOS games at the win95/98 time, it was always a mess when doing alt+enter or pressing the windows button.

This game is very stable..

I'm having a problem in the same place, so can I hijack this thread, or should I make a new one?

I'm using Windows XP and I keep crashing in the furnace room in the beginning of the game (the fifth screen or so). The elevator comes down for a second time and Joey flies down to join me, but when he lands and folds up his rotor blades, the console pops up saying "ERROR: Invalid Mode (65534)!" The game then crashes when I attempt to exit the console.

This happens every time, and I'm not sure what to do. Having wanted to play this game for a long time, it's quite disappointing. I hope this issue can be fixed.

This person is quite representative of many modern people. He expects everything to be just perfect all the time because he is 'entitled' to it. All computer games have occassional glitches and bugs and crashes. If he doesn't want to spend any time figuring these out then he should play board games instead. And it is dead wrong to attack GOG and urge no one ever to buy anything from them because he had one bad experience.

Emala, you have got to be one of the most ludicrous bipedals ever to walk this Earth. NO, I don't expect everything to be "just perfect" all the time because of an "entitlement." It's called: IF YOU'RE GOING TO DO A JOB, DO IT RIGHT AND DON'T DO IT HALF-*SS!" Plain and simple. Has nothing to do with entitlement at all.
