I throughly enjoyed this game, but those damned LINC-SPACE sequences really pissed me off! Nothing that happened in there made ANY SENSE! Picking up a ball, opening a bag and retrieving a magnifying glass and a birthday present, which then would transform into something completely else!

The pitch fork-"riddle" was especially annoying! The only thing I liked in LINC-SPACE was the red/green floor-bit, which actually made sense.. everything else in there was just a bunch of random incomprehensible stuff going on, which was almost impossible to solve without a walkthrough guide!
If you look things with info command (? symbol in inventory menu) it gives description of the programs which are represented with icons like present or knight etc. Using decrypting program to crypted files etc. doesn't seem too illogical to me. Naturally if you don't use info, then the sequence might seem confusing.

Gotta admit the Linc-Space bits are annoying, the only thing i hate about this game but once there done, phew no more.
I find the whole "blind the eyeball and skedaddle as fast as you can through several screens to pick up a doohicky whose function is not immediately clear" thing to be moderately annoying. (And the Info function doesn't seem to give much info about certain things--like the tuning fork and Phoenix, for example.) But the most annoying thing about LINC space to me is the dorky music--which at least is easy enough to turn off!
That damned LINC space caused me to abandon the game entirely. I tried several times to get that stupid effing tuning fork, but the stupid effing eye thwarted me.

Too bad, too, because I really liked the rest of the game. Joey makes for some great comic relief.
Just as a follow-up to my previous post: I found that in the "remastered" smartphone version of the game (a) the LINC-SPACE music is considerably more bearable, and (b) the eyeballs stay blinded longer so that you don't have to hurry quite so much when trying to get the tuning fork. (I still had time to spare even after playing back Anita's message!)
I'm actually thought it was one of the best bits in the game.

You could have used a walkthrough for that part, I did

Actually, I did consult a walkthrough... and even with its help, I still kept getting snagged in various stupid ways.

It's like the maze in The 7th Guest... even with a walkthrough, it's still a royal pain in the wazoo.

And don't get me started on the Selenitic "sound maze" in Myst...

Come to think of it, the Zork maze, with its twisty passages all alike, was a chore too.

What's with all these adventure-style games and their damned mazes?

Maybe try a video walkthrough.

Exactly. It's not the use of a walkthrough (or what kind of walkthrough) that's the issue... it's that the eye maze in BASS is timed, and that you only have a brief while to get to the tuning fork area before the eye wakes up again. All the walkthroughs in the world won't help when timing comes into play--the best they can say is that you just have to get to the other side as quick as you can, and it's up to the player to figure out how. But as I mentioned a few posts up, the eyes do stay blind a good bit longer in the smartphone version, if that's any help to anyone.

Hey, that was one of my favorites! At least it wasn't timed like the BASS one.
Personally I didn't mind those bits. I think it's supposed to be crazily abstract - it's a virtual representation of a computer system after all, kind of like those in Neuromancer (but different).

As others have said, using info tells you all you need to know. There aren't that many things to interact with (or that you have in inventory) so I thought it all made sense.
